It is also called Alpine Automobiles, but is better known as Alpine and was born as a small French car builder. It was founded in 1955 by the engineer Jean Redele and focused its attention on the development of competition vehicles. Its commercial denomination arose thanks to the different victories harvested in alpine racing (of Mountain).

Alpine's first model was based on the Renault 4CV who got the name of A106. From the very beginning, its history has been linked to that of Renault. Thus, the models of it have been manufactured in France (Dieppe), Spain (PHASE), Brazil (Willys Interlagos), Mexico (Dinalpin - National Diesel DINA) or Bulgaria (Bulgarian alpine).

The last model it made was the A610 and it was based on the Renault 25 Turbo. In 2012 he teamed up with Caterham for the development of sports vehicles, thus, the company was born Automobiles Alpine Caterham. However, in 2014 the agreement was broken and Renault acquired the shares of the English firm, taking full charge of the project.
