El Listen Q2 It is the smallest SUV of the German brand and is in charge of opening the portfolio of all-terrain models of the firm. With the arrival of this model, the German manufacturer enters one of the largest and most popular segments of the European market, the B-SUV, where it also does not have to face a large number of premium category rivals.

The Q2 was presented in society at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016. After years of development, the small SUV saw the light with a very different appearance from the rest of the models of Audi. It includes many elements and details that are particular to the B-SUV segment, such as the extensive personalization program or the contrasting details scattered throughout the bodywork. In 2018 the Q2 reaches its maximum power with the launch of the Audi SQ2, the most extreme and powerful version of the range.

As expected, in mid-2020 Audi introduces a facelift in the range. A mid-cycle commercial restyling that, although it does not introduce drastic changes in the aesthetic, does improve the equipment load of the small SUV. Audi also takes advantage of the moment to update the range of engines and introduce new security systems and a limited edition.

Technical characteristics of the Audi Q2

Audi Q2 2020

Audi belongs to the large conglomerate of the Volkswagen Group. That gives you access to one of the largest tech warehouses in the world. Under the body of the Q2 hides the MQB platform of the group, the same structure presented by other models such as the Volkswagen T ROC. It is characterized by its transversal mechanical position and its front-wheel drive.

In the case of the Audi Q2, the platform offers ideal measures for the B-SUV segment. 4,21 meters long, 1,79 meters wide and a height of 1,53 meters. To such dimensions we have to add a battle of 2,6 meters that leaves us with a correct interior space. The rear row allows a capacity of up to three passengers, although the central seat must fight with a smaller and narrower space that reduces comfort.

As for the load capacity of the trunk, the Q2 formalizes a minimum volume of 405 liters and a maximum of 1.050 obtained by folding down the second row of seats in a 60:40 ratio. These volumes are lower in four-wheel drive units, where the positioning of the differential leaves a boot with a minimum capacity of 355 litres.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Audi Q2

Audi SQ2 side

With the intention of making the mechanical offer more flexible, the Q2 offers a wide spectrum of engines, from TDI solutions to TFSI petrol units. The total absence of electrified systems that allow the small SUV to have the advantageous ECO label of the DGT stands out, which brings important benefits when moving. Options include seven-speed automatic or manual gearboxes with front or all-wheel drive systems.

By power, the range starts with the Q2 30 TFSi 110 hp. It has a small turbocharged three-cylinder engine managed by a six-speed manual gearbox. Behind him stands the Q2 30 TDI 116 horsepower and manual change. Below is the version Q2 35 TFSI with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 150 horsepower with a six-speed manual transmission.

Above these versions we find the Q2 35 TDI 150 horsepower with automatic transmission as standard, a seven-speed DSG transmission. The top of the range is represented by the version SQ2 with a two-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that develops 300 horsepower. It is equipped with quattro all-wheel drive and a 7-speed DSG transmission. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4,9 seconds.

Equipment of the Audi Q2

Audi Q2 2020 inside

One of the greatest differentiating capabilities of the Q2 with respect to the general models is inside. Unsurprisingly, Audi's small SUV It has better finishes and materials than the average of the category, though not as excellent as his signature might be expected. Personalization and attention to detail are strong points, and allow customers to have a model completely adapted to their tastes, something that is very important in the B-SUV segment.

Audi puts on the table different equipment levels: Advanced, S Line, Black Line Edition and Adrenalin. In each of them we not only modify the access technology load, but also the external appearance of the Q2. In addition to this we can even adopt an even sportier approach thanks to the S Line package or a more country touch thanks to the Offroad Style package.

As far as pure equipment is concerned, the Q2 is well prepared. LED headlights, keyless entry and start, induction charging, digital instrument panel, multimedia system with 10,1-inch screen, browser, sunroof, connection for mobile devices, dual-zone climate control and many more elements. The structure of driving assistants is also outstanding, although not in its provision of access.

The Audi Q2 According to Euro NCAP

The Audi Q2 has passed the Euro NCAP crash tests. The independent body has certified it with its highest score, the famous five stars. Audi's small SUV has been especially good in protecting adult passengers with a score of 93 out of 100. The score for child occupant safety has also been excellent, 86 out of 100. The lowest value is obtained by those attending the driving, where it barely marks a record of 60 out of 100. These ratings are still valid after the restyling of 2020.

The Audi Q2 of Km 0 and second hand

In its first years for sale, the Q2 has garnered optimal sales levels, although not spectacular. As it is a premium model, its depreciation percentage is low compared to other models in the category. The offer available in the used and second-hand channels is wide, with prices starting at around 15.000 euros for 2017 units.

Audi is not a brand used to handling large volumes of cars in stock. Being an expensive brand and very focused on premium, its customers choose to customize the models directly from the factory. This causes a certain shortage of models for sale in the Km 0 channel. Few units that exist have sales prices similar to the official ones., so they do not represent a clear advantage for buyers.

Rivals of the Audi Q2

Audi SQ2 rear profile

Everything that looks like an SUV today is postulated as a bestseller. The brands have seen the edge of the market and exploit it with at least one unit per segment. Although the B-SUVs are a winning bet not all premium brands compete in a category where low selling price is prioritized. That forces Q2 to face a smaller number of rivals, where they mainly highlight the MINI Countryman, the Mercedes GLA and el BMW X2.
