El Audi A4 Allroad is a direct derivative of Audi A4. A hybrid halfway between an SUV and a conventional sedan. With this bodywork, the German brand intends to attract a customer looking for a jacket solution without losing the qualities of a good sedan. An intermediate option that disappears more and more from the market every day, leaving the A4 a little more alone.

The idea of a family and country A4 arose in 1999 on the basis of the Audi A6. 10 years later the Audi A4 Allroad was born. Since 2009 the model has been included in the D-segment range, adapting to the constant changes that the family has undergone. Including more technology and more versatile mechanical options.

The last unit of the Audi A4 Allroad landed on the market in 2015. The fifth generation of the saloon, the second of the Allroad body. That same generation has suffered a important face lift in 2019. A restyling of the second commercial cycle that has a slight aesthetic change accompanied by a considerable improvement in technology and a more limited mechanical range.

Technical characteristics of the Audi A4 Allroad

As we have already said, the A4 Allroad is a leading member of the A4 family. That means that like the rest of the family, it sits on the basis of the Volkswagen Group's MLB platform. This versatile structure is used by the German conglomerate in many models such as the Audi A5, Audi A6, Audi A7 or Listen Q5. For each model, the structure is adapted according to the needs and measurement requirements.

For the specific case of the Audi A4 Allroad, the MLB structure is configured for exterior measurements that fit perfectly into the D-SUV segment. 4,76 meters long, 1,85 meters wide and 1,49 meters high. It is three centimeters higher than a normal A4 Avant thanks to the greater ground clearance, something necessary when we enter off-road terrain.

To these measures must be added a wheelbase of 2,82 meters. This allows you to have a spacious interior with a maximum capacity of five passengers. Regarding the cargo volume, the boot has a capacity of at least 495 liters, expandable to 1.495 liters if the second row of seats is folded down in a 60:40 ratio.

Mechanical range and Audi A4 Allroad gearboxes

Emission and pollution regulations have become very strict. Manufacturers try to conform to them in any way and Audi has opted for the path of micro hybridization for part of the mechanical range of the A4 Allroad. The offer is made up of a diesel variant and a gasoline. A short range but that offers higher power levels than conventional ones. All units arrive associated with a quattro all-wheel drive scheme and S Tronic or Tiptronic gearboxes depending on the variant.

The gasoline option is limited to the version 45 TFSI ultra with quattro drive system and seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The set develops a maximum power of 265 horsepower thanks to a turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. Certify with the ECO label thanks to a Mild Hybrid team which reduces emissions and consumption.

In the diesel branch we have the most economical option of all, the A4 Avant 40 TDI ultra. It mounts as standard an all-wheel drive scheme with a double-clutch automatic gearbox. It develops 204 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque.. It offers a low hybridization MHEV system with a 12-volt auxiliary electrical diagram and an ECO label from the DGT.

Equipment of the Audi A4 Allroad

The Audi A4 Allroad is a separate entity within the A4 family. Like the sports versions, it does not have various levels of equipment. There is only the Allroad option, a level that includes more equipment as standard. As is already the case with engines, the more country-style A4 has the highest-end options in materials and finishes, thus sporting a more premium interior from its access finish.

As for its technological content, the A4 Allroad comes standard with an outstanding team. 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, windshield with acoustic insulation, leather upholstery, three-zone climate control, multimedia system with 7-inch screen, digital radio, automatic cruise control, and much more. To this we must add a large team of driving assistants and security elements.

Audi obviously knows that the customer of the A4 Allroad is going to demand more equipment, and that is why the list of options is very large. Options that also do not come cheap as is customary in the German house. Sunroof, LED matrix headlights, digital instrument panel, electric and heated seats, air suspension, parking cameras, and the always outstanding Audi Exclusive customization team.

The Audi A4 Allroad according to Euro NCAP

Like the entire A4 family, the Allroad bases its results on those obtained by the A4 Avant. As the whole family is based on the same platform and has the same technologies, everyone shares opinions. And somewhat lower values in pedestrian safety and operation of driving assistants.

The Audi A4 Allroad of Km 0 and second hand

Although the A4 Allroad is not the best-selling version of the family, it has always had a very loyal market over the years. Its reputation for quality, durability and handling on all types of terrain has made it a very special model for those looking for the courtesies of an SUV in the format of a classic sedan. Thanks to these attributes the percentage of depreciation of the A4 campero stands at a discreet 29,5 percent.

In the second-hand and occasion channels we find units that start at a price close to 9.000 euros for units between 2010 and 2013 with between 200 thousand and 350 thousand kilometers accumulated. If we opt for the Km 0 route, the offer is less extensive, and all of it focuses on the latest generation post-restyling models of 2019. In that case, the prices are around 55.000 euros, similar to those found at the dealership.

Rivals of the Audi A4 Allroad

You could say that the A4 Allroad is one of a kind. Premium, family and diesel. These are its three fundamental characteristics. Three keys that make scanning the market only find a direct rival, the Volvo V60 Cross Country. The two present the same scheme, although the Volvo is also committed to offering gasoline mechanics. To this couple we can add other models within the general segment, such as the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack, or the Subaru Outback. The rest of the firms have rejected this type of hybrid solutions because they do not represent a large number of sales
