El Audi A7 is to the A6 as the Audi A5 al Audi A4. The German house uses the name Sportback in part of its range to refer to the coupé bodies of conventional models, hence the A7 is always accompanied by such a well-known surname. It is a large model that opts for a different customer, one that prioritizes aesthetics over functionality, and that seeks a more dynamic driving.

The first of the Audi A7 was launched on the market in 2010. His design quickly fell in love with millions of buyers around the world. Despite taking advantage of much of the development and technology of the A6, the A7 has always enjoyed a completely different design from the rest of the AXNUMX models. Audi. An exclusive line for him that was completely renewed in 2018 with the launch of the second generation.

The second edition further exploits the lessons learned from the first A7. Much sharper and more attractive design, more quality materials, much more technology and a high-performance mechanical range that includes more efficient options. Thanks to these steps, the coupé saloon has become one of the references in its exclusive market, fighting for the first position in sales worldwide with its counterpart from Mercedes-Benz.

Technical characteristics of the Audi A7

The characteristics of the A7 Sportback take us to the highest range of Ingolstadt. Beneath its sculpted bodywork, the coupé sedan uses the same platform as its sibling the Audi A6. The measurements of both are practically traced, although the differences in behavior are notable since the buyer of the A7 looks for a different driving than the one offered by the A6.

Said MLB structure of the Volkswagen Group leaves us with generous exterior measures. 4,97 meters long, 1,91 meters wide and 1,42 meters high. To these levels we must add a wheelbase of 2,93 meters, enough battle for five passengers to fit inside with all comfort and space. The only problem comes from a rear row where the height with respect to the roof can cause the tallest passengers not to be as comfortable.

The Audi A7 is a five-door. The tailgate is integrated into the rear structure, so it opens with the rear glass. The huge rear door reveals a generously proportioned boot, 535 liters at least. This volume is drastically reduced for plug-in hybrid versions. Due to the positioning of the batteries and the electric motor, the trunk of the A7 TFSIe has a minimum capacity of 380 litres, comparable to a model like the Audi A3.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Audi A7

Audi Sportback A7

Under the long bonnet of the A7 Sportback the largest engines from the Audi house are installed. Being a luxury sedan, the mechanical part focuses on delivering high performance. The range is made up of four diesel versions, two petrol versions and two plug-in hybrids with the DGT ZERO label. These last Audi collects them under the umbrella of the denominations 50 and 55 TFSIe, develop 299 and 367 horsepower, respectively and both are capable of traveling up to 54 km in electric mode.

In fact, the entire mechanical range of the A7 has advantageous labels. The diesel branch has variants with four and six cylinders that deliver between 204 and 344 horses of power These mechanics are accompanied by a low hybridization scheme with a 48-volt auxiliary electrical system that slightly reduces consumption while being classified by the DGT as an ECO vehicle. All the mechanics are associated with a seven-speed S Tronic gearbox, and only the most powerful units come with a quattro drive.

Although the market is recovering the gasoline versions, the big models like A7 continue to focus mainly on more economical solutions. Nonetheless Audi offers two TFSI solutions, 45 and 55 TFSi. The powers range between 245 and 340 horses. Above them we only find the special and excessive Audi RS7 Sportback, the most extreme vision of the range with a powerful V8 biturbo installed under the hood. Like the rest of the mechanical fleet, the TFSI engines homologate the ECO label thanks to a Mild-Hybrid system.

These values make it one of the safest models in its category. Euro NCAP certifies it with its five safety stars. After the tests it has been shown to be especially powerful in the protection of adult and child occupants. The Audi A7 of Km 0 and second hand

The market for large sedans is not at its best, but it continues to achieve excellent sales figures. Of all the sedan formats that currently exist, the coupé sedan is the least affected. The A7 is one of the benchmarks for its good sales and extensive experience. Both facts allow us to have a wide range of units for sale in the used and second-hand channels.

The percentage of depreciation of the Audi A7 is low, the prices are preserved over time. The lowest prices start at figures close to 15.000 euros. The Km 0 channel is less nourished with units. It is a high-end car and exclusive market, so dealers do not accumulate units in stock to give a quick exit. In addition, it is a car prone to customization, so each customer chooses to request exclusive details from the factory.

Rivals of the Audi A7

Only premium brands can aspire to a market as exclusive as the one targeted by the Audi A7. For that reason the rivals of the German can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Undoubtedly the strongest and most direct enemy are the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes CLS-Class. Both are practically traced in price, equipment and size. We also find rivals at higher economic levels, such as the Porsche Panamera. At BMW there is no model to rival the one from Ingolstadt after the demise of the 6 Series.
