His arrival occurs in the spring of 2021 along with that of his brother, the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback sporting a coupé silhouette. Both are large SUVs, but they are positioned as the smallest electric models of the house.

With the arrival of the new Q4 e-tron, the electric range of Audi continues to grow after the previous steps of the Audi e-tron y The Audi e-tron GT. One more time the Germans have entrusted the design to an SUV body, because after all market trends are not elusive to the battery-powered car market.

Being a recently launched model, the Audi Q4 e-tron is installed in its first generation. New features are introduced in it that will gradually be extended to the rest of the models in the range, including a high-performance and more efficient electrical system. Its commercial launch takes place in the summer of 2021, introducing a small update in 2023. Its production takes place at the German plant in Zwickau.

Technical characteristics of the Audi Q4 e-tron

When developing the Q4 e-tron, Audi had an easy time determining which platform to use. Under the structure of this SUV hides the specific MEB architecture for electric vehicles of the Volkswagen Group. It is the same that is used in other products of the conglomerate, such as Volkswagen ID.3, Volkswagen ID.4 or Skoda Enyaq IV.

In this case the proportions have been adjusted so that the Q4 e-tron fits perfectly into the D-SUV segment. Outwardly it reaches heights of 4,59 meters long, 1,86 meters wide and 1,61 meters high. To these measures must be added a wheelbase of 2,76 meters. More than enough wheelbase to show off a generous cabin with room for up to five passengers.

Three of them are installed on a slightly raised rear bench with respect to the front seats. Legroom is optimal, although the central occupant will have the inconvenience of traveling in a slightly narrower seat. In terms of load capacity, the Audi Q4 e-tron offers a trunk with a minimum capacity of 520 liters, while the Sportback body achieves a minimum of 535 litres.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Audi Q4 e-tron

The fact of using the MEB platform means that the Q4 e-tron must conform to a non-exclusive mechanical scheme. Obviously it is an SUV designed from the ground up to be solely electric, and therefore its entire range revolves around that technology. Although the model arrives with two different batteries, as of 2023 it is only available with the largest battery of all, one lithium-ion battery with 77 kWh net capacity. The versions of access to the mechanical offer also disappear.

The access version is called Q4 45 e-tron. It mounts the aforementioned battery with a single-propeller drive assembly installed on the rear axle. It develops 286 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque. Officially announces an approved range of 533 kilometers under the WLTP homologation cycle. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6,7 seconds and reaches a top speed limited to 180 kilometers with an estimated average consumption of 16,6 kWh per 100 kilometers traveled.

The top of the range is Q4 55 e-tron with 77 kWh battery and two electric motors (one on each axis). It develops 340 horsepower, distributing the power between the two axles. Announces an approved autonomy of 514 kilometers. As for energy recovery, Audi announces a recharging power of up to 175 kW, which would mean going from 0 to 80% in just 28 minutes. The entire range is shared with the Q4 e-tron Sportback.

Equipment of the Audi Q4 e-tron

We are talking about an Audi, and therefore it must be offered with an interior that lives up to the premium consideration that is assumed. Inside the doors the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback have a very well presented interior, both in technology and finishes. Hard plastics and soft, tactile surfaces intermingle to create a feel of good quality.

Once again the range of equipment is divided into several levels and packages that allow extensive customization of the vehicle. From lowest to highest equipment we find: Q4 e-tron, Advanced, S Line and Black Line Edition. At each level, not only the load of systems is improved, but also the appearance and the available customizable elements such as wheels, moldings or mechanical versions.

As far as equipment is concerned, the new Q4 e-tron family assembles all the typical systems expected from a model in this category. They stand out: matrix LED headlights, digital instrumentation, Head-Up Display, wireless connectivity, multimedia system with touch panel up to 11,6 inches, connected services, parking camera and a long list of driving assistants and security elements.
