We all think that the Audi R8 it is Audi's most powerful car, and the truth is that we are very wrong. It is the sportiest, yes, but if we speak exclusively of power there are two models within the house that surpass it. One is the Audi RS Avant 6, and another the Audi RS7 Sportback. In this case we will focus on the latter case. A high-flying sedan that combines sportiness, excesses and exclusivity in equal parts.

It must also be said that this is not the first generation of the Audi RS 7 Sportback. This beast has been on the market for a few years now. The first of its generations dates back to 2015. He is not a model with a long history behind him, but in that short time he has managed to earn the admiration of many. Currently the RS 7 Sportback is in the second of its generations, as is the Audi Sportback A7, model of the preceding one.

Technical characteristics of the Audi RS 7 Sportback

When we talk about so much power and so much performance, it is important to establish it on a good base. For the RS models, Audi engineers use a specific, more robust and lighter architecture., so that it is able to withstand extreme treatment. Unlike the first generation, the Audi RS 7 Sportback sits on a chassis that has been conceived from the outset to include the most demanding engines and features in the range.

It's hard to think of a full-size sports car, but the Audi RS 7 Sportback combines the two under a sculpted and muscular coupé saloon body. Its external measurements are: 5 meters long, 1,95 meters wide and 1,42 meters high. Not at all discreet measures to which we must add one last important piece of information, the weight. On the scale the most radical of the A7 throws a definitive weight of 2.140 kilograms in running order.

Finally we must bear in mind that it is a sedan to use. For this reason, its 2,93 meters of battle make it a relatively spacious car inside. The capacity is for four or five passengers, to be chosen by the client. Its trunk volume also denotes good prospects as a family car. 535 liters minimum capacity expandable to 1.390 liters just by folding down the second row of seats in a 60:40 ratio.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Audi RS 7 Sportback

The real secret of the RS 7 Sportback is hidden under its long bonnet. Although the conventional range of the A7 uses blocks of between four and six cylinders, the RS has to show much more strength than that. Audi does not complicate the situation with various mechanics and various models. There is only one RS 7 Sportback for sale that is linked to the traditional Quattro traction of the house, already a Tiptronic automatic gearshift eight-speed torque converter type.

A single engine. A four-liter V8 with two turbochargers that develops 600 of the fiercest horsepower. To this we must add 800 Nm of maximum torque available between 2.050 and 4.500 revolutions. Above this "conventional" version, Audi has added to the range the RS 7 Performance with a specific setup and superior performance: 630 horsepower and 850 Nm of maximum torque.

To make the block a bit more efficient, Audi has arranged a low hybridization scheme or also called Mild Hybrid. The V8 is coupled with a small electric motor and a small battery. Both are connected by a 48-volt auxiliary electrical diagram that, although it does not affect performance, does reduce emissions and consumption. Thanks to that The Audi RS 7 Sportback earns the DGT ECO label.

Equipment of the Audi RS 7 Sportback

Audi is considered a premium brand, and within that category we have various levels. The RS 7 Sportback is located in the highest part next to the model from which it derives and others such as the Audi A8 or Listen Q8. That means that has for itself all the technological elements and equipment that a firm like Audi is capable of disposing of, and there are many. However, as usual within the firm, the standard equipment is not as spectacular as one would expect in a car of this cut and price.

That forces you to go to the catalog of options and extra elements to mount technology that should come as standard. Part of these optional elements are focused on improving the dynamics of the car.. So much so that we find carbon-ceramic brakes, sports exhaust systems or directional rear axle. Of course, the prices of all these mechanical elements are not cheap at all. A clear example is the almost 12.000 euros that carbon-ceramic discs cost.

But if we look exclusively at technology, we must recognize that the Audi RS 7 Sportback can count on state-of-the-art systems presented in a spectacular way thanks to its triple screen approach. Electric and heated sports seats, keyless entry and start, induction charger, connectivity for mobile devices, digital instrument panel, three-zone climate control, sunroof, matrix LED headlights and leather and Alcantara upholstery, among others. We must also include a long list of safety elements and driving assistants.

The Audi RS 7 Sportback according to Euro NCAP

As such, the Audi RS 7 Sportback does not have a specific assessment within the European Euro NCAP safety tests. However, as it is included in the A7 range, the results obtained by the sedan from which it derives are the same as for the sportier variant. That means that the RS 7 meets all safety requirements and for this reason it is cataloged with five stars. It is especially safe in the protection of adult and child passengers and in the protection of pedestrians thanks to such a low nose.

The Audi RS 7 Sportback in the Km 0 channel and second hand

The Audi RS 7 Sportback is included in a segment beyond the reach of most pockets. Its production and marketing is scarce, and this means that the units for sale in second-hand and second-hand channels are very limited. However, there are and with high prices. In the best case a second-hand and first-generation RS 7 Sportback has a selling price of more than 60.000 euros. The low mileage of the units counts in its favor.

As for the offer in stock or Km 0, it does not exist as such. The second generation RS 7 Sportback has been on the market for such a short time that there has been no possibility of adding Km 0 units. It must also be taken into account that Given the price and the exclusivity of the model, it does not usually have units in said channel.. That forces you to go to an official dealer to make the pertinent request to the factory.

Audi RS 7 Sportback rivals

Although it's hard to believe the RS 7 Sportback has rivals to face. It is true that there are not many, but those that are are as impressive as the beast of Ingolstadt. The most important models you have to deal with are: BMW Serie 8, Mercedes AMG GT 53Porsche Panamera. The German trio once gallops alone, although we could also add other units such as the Aston Martin Rapide.
