Abbreviations DFSK extension come from the alliance of two manufacturers. On one side is DFM (Dongfeng Motor Corporation). A giant that sells more than three million units a year. Its name means east wind, and the company was founded in 1968 by dictator Mao Zedong.

DFM allocates a large part of its production to the manufacture of cars that are not of its own design. Dongfeng has several joint ventures that give you access to the manufacture of models of other brands for the Chinese market. An example is Honda, Nissan, Citroën, Peugeot y KIA.

The second part of the DFSK brand comes from Sokon. A Chinese private company with a long history of manufacturing motorcycles, shock absorber motors and microcars. Its production volume reaches more than six million units, and in turn manufactures original components for companies such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Honda, Among others.

With the alliance of Dongfeng and Sokon, DFSK becomes one of the three largest automakers in China. The brand was founded on June 27, 2003, and although in the first part of its history it has focused on the creation of industrial models, it has recently made the leap to car production.

The first models of the corporation to arrive in Europe have been the DFSK 580 and DFSK IX5. Two products that want to show that Chinese cars have nothing to do with the traditional concept of cheap and Spartan. Although at the moment the sales are merely residual, market share is expected to rise over time thanks to its attractive selling price.

Currently the firm's models are manufactured in China, in the assembly line that DFSK has in Hubei province. The entire production process is carried out here, from the stamping of the plates, to the final assembly, including painting. The engines are also self-made.

Although, as we have already said, the headquarters is located in China, DFSK currently exports its products to more than 70 countries around the world., which includes Spain. Its main market is Asia, but it is gaining more weight in other territories such as Canada, the United States or Australia.

In Spain and Portugal DFSK sells its products through DFSK Ibérica, a company founded in 2008 formed by the union of various companies with extensive experience in the automotive sector. The objective is to conquer an increasingly extensive market share thanks to its two star products, the 580 and the IX5.
