The McLaren Sport Series range is the most accessible branch of the Woking brand. Although the firm is known for its history in Formula 1, where it hosts several constructors' and drivers' world titles, today it has a highly successful commercial vehicle division. The McLaren 570GT it is one of its access models, although that does not imply the loss of certain characteristics.

And it is that sportsmanship is not at odds with other concepts such as daily use or comfort. McLaren has arranged for the 570GT to be a high-performance model that can be enjoyed beyond the natural territories of a speed circuit. In 2016 the English discovered it to the world during the Geneva Motor Show, and it derives directly from the McLaren 570S, with which it shares many of the elements.

As specified in its acronym GT, the 570 is a Gran Turismo with a more pragmatic than sporty approach. At the moment there has only been one generation, and unlike its brother the S, it has not enjoyed special or commemorative editions. At the moment McLaren has not proposed a change or update in the model, although it is expected that in the future it will be completely renewed to continue offering a different touch from its brothers.

Technical characteristics of the McLaren 570GT

As we have already mentioned, the 570GT derives directly from the 570S. Both are supported by the same structure. A carbon fiber monocoque chassis weighing just 80 kilograms which McLaren calls MonoCell II. Thanks to its low weight and high rigidity, the GT is able to house great performance in a natural way and specifically focused on the rear axle.

The measurements of the McLaren 570GT lead us to a compact size sports car ideal for a wide range of use. 4,53 meters long, 2,09 meters wide and 1,20 meters high. To these measures must be added a battle of 2,67 meters that translates into a small cabin for a maximum of two passengers. A characteristic feature of the 570GT, like other McLarens, is the opening of its doors vertically.

Being a model more focused on recreational use, the 570GT enjoys the largest load capacity of the entire McLaren family. It has two trunks. The main one is installed under a glass cover behind the seats. It has 220 liter capacity, to which must be added an additional 150 liters coming from a hole right in the front.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the McLaren 570GT

The entire Sport Series range rests on the same mechanical structure. A single engine that is capable of offering different levels of power depending on the mechanical adjustment, the control unit and the performance provided by the double turbocharger system. In the case of the 570GT we are at an intermediate point between the McLaren 540C and the McLaren 600LT.

Enjoy an engine, in a central position, made of aluminum eight cylinders in vee with 3.799 cubic centimeters of displacement. This engine is coupled with a biturbo system and a double overhead camshaft. The block is joined by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that is responsible for sending all the power of the engine exclusively to the rear axle.

The result are 570 horsepower at 7.500 revolutions and a maximum torque of 600 Nm between 5.000 and 6.500 laps. As we have already said, despite its touring focus, the 570GT enjoys heart-stopping performance; from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,4 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 9,8 seconds and a top speed of 328 km/h. All this with a combined consumption approved in the WLTP cycle of 12 liters for every 1 kilometers travelled.

Equipment of the McLaren 570GT

The McLaren 570GT isn't just a pretty face or a performance car. It is also a high-priced sports car that brings with it an interior with excellent finishes and well equipped. The GT character gives it a cabin where absolutely nothing is missing, and where its two passengers enjoy enough space and comfort for long-distance use or more routine treatment.

As such, McLaren does not present a range of finishes. The 570GT arrives well equipped from its access level, although different additional options are offered. Customization program is as extensive as the customer's imagination or portfolio. Different options of paints, upholstery and details that can become exclusive if we enter the territory of the MSO division.

As far as equipment is concerned, the technological load is worthy of a car of its price and consideration, although it almost completely dispenses with assistance elements or driving aids. Much of the optional equipment focuses on improving performance, such as the exhaust system, carbon-ceramic brakes, aerodynamic appendages or semi-smooth Pirelli P ZERO Corsa tires. All of them increase the final price considerably.
