However, like any manufacturer, its range is fragmented into various tiers of price and performance. The 600LT is integrated into the range of access to the sports family, known as the Sport Series. In it, he shares a campus with other models such as McLaren 540C, McLaren 570GT and McLaren 570S. It is from the latter that the unit that concerns us derives, although with its surname Long-Tail, McLaren makes it clear to us that we are facing a more radical version, with less weight and more benefits.

Reaching the performance and performance levels of the 600LT involves a lot of preparation and development work. Everything in the car has to be focused on such an effort, and the whole process starts with a monocoque chassis made of low-weight, high-strength carbon fiber. McLaren calls this structure with the name MonoCell II. It barely weighs 75 kilograms, but all development revolves around it.

As its name suggests, the McLaren 600LT sports slightly higher measurements than the model from which it derives. 4,6 meters long, 2,1 meters wide and 1,2 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,67 meters that translates into a passenger compartment with space for two occupants. Which, everything is said in passing, will not enjoy the widest of equipment.

Although cargo space is a minor value in a car with this approach, McLaren wants to reward its customers with a 150 liter load capacity. A reduced trunk that cannot be expanded since it is installed in the front, because we must not forget that the 600LT mounts its engine in a central-rear position, occupying all the available space from the seats to the end of the car.

The mechanical range of the 600LT focuses on a single variant. A mechanical set that has no possibility of change and that does not present any type of hybridization either. In this case, despite being part of the brand's most accessible family, the 600LT sports the highest performance of the Sport Series range, standing just below the upper division, where we find more radical models such as the McLaren 720S.

It equips a block made of high resistance aluminum with eight cylinders in vee and 3.799 cubic centimeters cylinder capacity It has a double camshaft per bank and a total of 32 valves, four per cylinder. To this block is added a biturbo system that raises performance. Finally, management is entrusted to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that transfers all the power from the engine to the rear wheels.

In total the V8 displaces a total of 600 horsepower at 7.500 revolutions and maximum torque of 620 Nm between 5.500 and 6.500 revolutions. Such figures translate into acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2,9 seconds, acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h in 8,2 seconds and a top speed of 328 km/h. Excellent performance thanks in part to an announced weight of 1.356 kilograms.

As we have already said, the Long Tail versions imply a weight loss and an increase in performance. For the first, the engineers of McLaren have gotten rid of many non-essential equipment items such as the air conditioning. The original seats have also been replaced by ones developed for the McLaren Senna. Two racing buckets made of carbon fiber that anchor their occupants to the structure of the car itself.

Thanks to these changes equipment is lost, but the feeling of sportiness is raised. McLaren has relied on its racing team to create a typical racing cabin. Materials such as carbon fiber or Alcantara are distributed to create that atmosphere of luxury and competition. Although the image of all McLaren 600LT is the same, it will be difficult to find two identical models circulating on the street given the extensive customization program that exists.

As far as equipment is concerned, the 600LT ditches most of the systems, with most of the rest focused on the eight-inch screen that dominates the center console. There are not many optionals available, and most of them focus on improve handling, such as an upgraded exhaust or carbon-ceramic brakes. Of course, all driving aids that we take today as current and usual in the industry are also dispensed with.
