McLaren is one of the most iconic and famous firms in the world of competition. Its founder, Bruce McLaren himself, was very clear about what kind of sports car he wanted to develop. Although the company has always focused more on the world of competition, the family of road vehicles, McLaren Automotive, continues to grow thanks to the arrival of units such as the McLaren 675LT.

Unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the 675LT has a well-recognized industry acronym. LT is the abbreviation of Long-Tail, which in the language of Cervantes means "Long Tail". This denomination is used for those models that extend their body behind the rear axle, creating a clear imbalance in the design but which has considerable sporting benefits.

Just a few months after the presentation of the coupé body, the McLaren 675LT Spider. Both are the forerunners of the house's Sports Series range, although they were only for sale for a couple of years, ceasing production at the end of 2017. Today their position remains vacant, remaining in an intermediate term between the new McLaren 600LT and McLaren 765LT.

Technical characteristics of the McLaren 675LT

The McLaren 675LT is a marvel of performance and speed. But to reach its demanding levels you need a solid base on which to lean. In this case, those from Woking have created a Low-weight, high-strength carbon fiber monocoque chassis. Capable of coping with extreme performance while securing its occupants in the event of an impact.

Despite its extended rear, the 675LT has very compact measurements, similar to those of an average sedan. 4,55 meters long, 2,09 meters wide and 1,19 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,67 meters that translates into a cabin limited to two occupants, and a total weight of just 1.403 kilograms.

Without communicated trunk capacity, the most characteristic feature of the McLaren 675LT is its vertical door opening system. A virguería that also equips the convertible version, the 675LT Spider. Count with one retractable roof that is hidden in just 15 seconds in a small space just behind the seats. It hardly increases the weight by 40 kilograms with respect to the coupe.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the McLaren 675LT

The real secret behind the 675LT is its mechanics. And once again McLaren uses an engine that he controls perfectly and that he knows how to squeeze like no other. It only has one variant, a gasoline option devoid of any hybridization element. It is the same engine that is currently used in the rest of the Sport Series range, such as the McLaren 540C or McLaren 570S.

We are talking about a block made of aluminum of eight cylinders in vee with 3.799 cubic centimeters of displacement. It is equipped with a double overhead camshaft and a high-revving twin-turbo system. Coupled to the engine we find a cautomatic double clutch gearbox and seven speeds, which is responsible for sending all the power of the engine exclusively to the rear axle.

In total, the block develops 675 horsepower at 7.100 revolutions and 700 Nm of maximum torque between 5.000 and 6.500 revolutions. Thanks to these benefits, the McLaren 675LT has performance figures of a true supercar. From 0 to 100 km/h in just 2,9 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h. All this with an average consumption approved in the NEDC cycle of 11,7 liters per 100 kilometers travelled.

Equipment of the McLaren 675LT

McLaren 675LT Details

Entering the cabin of the 675LT, McLaren has prepared an interior with a clear sporty focus taking inspiration from racing. High-quality materials such as carbon fiber or Alcantara they intermingle to generate a sensation of excellent finish and manufacture. Although it does not stand out for the amount of equipment, and less for the presence of driving aids or assistants.

As such, a range of finishes structured in levels as usual is not presented. In this case McLaren chooses to deliver the almost complete 675LT, although gives the customer a wide range of different options for customization. An attention to detail where the limit is only set by the owner's imagination or monetary fund.

As far as equipment is concerned, the McLaren 675LT focuses more on sensations than on technology. Although he enjoys a wide deployment of systems, the vast majority of them focused on improving the driving experience. The most striking thing is the presence of a central touch screen with which most of the functionalities can be managed.
