Few manufacturers remain to resist change. McLaren was one of them, but that has ended with the launch of its first hybrid model, the McLaren Arthur. A state-of-the-art supercar that marks the way forward.

The Artura is officially launched in February 2021, although McLaren had been warning of its possible launch for some time. As we have commented, It is the company's first plug-in hybrid. The first of a batch of products that extends the claws of a technology that had in the McLaren Speedtail as origin. Unlike this, the Artura is shown with a more "normal" appearance and a more civilized touch.

Technical characteristics of the McLaren Artura

Dynamic McLaren Artura

When a model is unique in its kind or in its family, everything it mounts is new and unprecedented. Under the body of the McLaren Artura hides a new generation platform. A structure designed from scratch to house an entire hybrid mechanical framework. It uses nothing of its brothers except for the design, where the current design philosophy of the house is applied with certain Speedtail trends.

Although its image can deceive the eye, the reality is that the Artura is integrated into the segment of compact supercars. Outwardly it reaches dimensions that take it to the 4,54 meters long, 1,91 meters wide, 1,19 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,64 meters. A battle that allows you to offer an interior space for a maximum of two passengers.

Two passengers who are installed in competition seats and who enjoy a correct and generous interior space. The location of the cabin allows optimizing the weight distribution on each axle of the car. With regard to load capacity the McLaren Artura offers a trunk with 160 liters of capacity. It is located at the front and does not allow many elements to be introduced, taking into account the presence of the charging cables.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the McLaren Artura

McLaren Artura rear

As usual in the English brand, McLaren offers a single mechanical version for its supercar. As has already become clear It is a mechanical plug-in hybrid. The first of its kind. It is not ruled out that in the future different versions with more power will come to light, although all of them will offer another name. The Artura is a high volume production model, unlike the Speedtail which has a limited number of units.

The main drive train is a six-cylinder turbocharged vee with 2.993 cubic centimeters of displacement. By itself it develops 585 horsepower at 7.500 revolutions and 585 Nm of torque between 2.250 and 7.000 revolutions. Next to it, in the rear central position, an electric motor capable of driving the Artura by itself is attached. It offers 95 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque.

The sum total of the set reveals a maximum power of 680 horsepower and 720 Nm of torque when the two motors work together. A lithium-ion battery with 7,4 kWh powers the electric motor for an estimated range of 30 kilometers. Its benefits take us to an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in three seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h.

The Artura offers a very well presented cabin, both in quality and design. Digitization takes full control, as does customization, offering customers an extensive program that allows them to configure each unit to their individual taste.

Carbon fiber, leather or Alcantara are some of the many possible options. As usual in the house, all equipment is provided from the starting point. More or fewer elements can be added depending on the client's taste, although the list of options is not very extensive. Part of it focuses on improving the performance of some mechanical components such as exhausts or brakes.

As far as equipment is concerned, the McLaren Artura offers a long list of latest-generation technologies and systems. Two screens take center stage, one performing the instrumentation functions, and another as the central axis of the multimedia system, also including the air conditioning module. In this way, the two occupants of the hybrid supercar will not only go in a luxurious environment, but also technological.

Although we are talking about new-generation sports cars, the new era initiated by McLaren has been replicated previously in several luxury sports firms such as the English one. That means that the Artura has a series of rivals, although the list to highlight is not very long yes, models appear in it that little by little are becoming more and more important.
