In the history of McLaren We have never had so many options available at our fingertips. The British continue to launch high-performance sports models on the market, although in this case they introduce a concept little known to them, McLaren GT. Unlike the McLaren 570GT, this unit has a more touring approach, although it does not lose all the features expected of a Woking model.

The GT was presented during the celebration of the Geneva Motor Show 2019, although it was not until 2020 when its commercial journey began. With it, the brand enters a segment little explored for them, although it is for many of its rivals. We are facing the most practical and comfortable McLaren of all time, with a configuration designed mainly for long trips.

Unlike most of its branded siblings, the McLaren GT it is not integrated into any of the families already present, neither Sport Series, nor Super Series nor Ultimate Series. He only enjoys a particular category. Another of his unique peculiarities is that he will not have a Spider version, since the introduction of a convertible would force him to completely get rid of the small trunk that is present.

Technical characteristics of the McLaren GT

Let's not think that McLaren has softened its demanding features. That the GT is a car designed for the road does not exempt it from its corresponding dose of drama, speed and performance. It is a supercar hidden in the image of a Gran Turismo, and for this reason it uses, like the rest of the English family, a monocoque chassis made of carbon fiber called MonoCell II-T.

This architecture of high strength and minimal weight gives it dimensions similar to those of a mid-size sedan. 4,68 meters long, 2,04 meters wide and 1,21 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,67 meters. Battle so that a maximum of two passengers can be comfortably installed inside. All this contained in a weight of 1.530 kilograms.

We continue with the particularities of the McLaren GT and it is time to talk about the load capacity. A router with these characteristics must show a load capacity large enough for at least a couple of suitcases. The GT divides its cargo capacity in two. On the one hand, a rear trunk with glass cover that has a fixed capacity of 420 liters. To it we must add a small hole located in the front of the car with just 150 extra liters.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the McLaren GT

2019 McLaren GT

McLaren has specialized in V8 engines. All the models of the house, regardless of performance, mount a V8 block in mid-rear position, as it happens in the GT. Only a mechanical variant is available, with no exchange possibilities. It is the same engine that some of the great figures of the brand mount, such as the McLaren Senna or McLaren 720S. Although in this case the power has been graduated so as not to be so wild.

Blocks from eight cylinders in vee, made of high-strength aluminum and with a displacement of 3.994 cubic centimeters. It features double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and a twin turbo system. Without any trace of hybridization, the engine is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that is responsible for sending all the power of the engine to the rear axle.

What does all this translate? well in 620 horsepower at 7.500 revolutions and 630 Nm of maximum torque between 5.500 and 6.500 revolutions. Its performance figures are no less outrageous. From 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,2 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in just 9 seconds and a top speed of 326 km/h. Such data make it the fastest GT on the market, and all this with a combined average consumption in the WLTP cycle of 11,9 liters per 100 kilometers travelled.

McLaren GT Equipment

2019 McLaren GT

The McLaren are not particularly well-equipped cars because their concept and purpose is different. However, the McLaren GT delivers the best of both worlds. On the one hand, excellent performance, and on the other, a perfectly finished and well-appointed interior.. In this way the two passengers will be able to enjoy a road trip with all the luxuries and comforts that one could expect in a luxury car.

The interior of the GT presents less drama than the rest of its brand brothers, although it is a sports car, its commitment is different, and in this case the competition atmosphere is reduced thanks to the presence of materials such as high-quality leather. However, the brand does not forget its philosophy, and introduces materials such as carbon fiber or Alcantara in its list of options.

As far as equipment is concerned, it is worth noting the presence of a lot of technology. Part of it focuses on improving performance and part on improving the quality of life on board. The dual screen system draws attention. One in the digital instrument panel, with 12,3 inches, and the other in the center console with a size of eight inches and touch control. Through it you can manage a variety of functions, such as air conditioning, the browser or the high-fidelity sound system.

Some of those models are: BMW M8, Aston Martin DB11, Mercedes-AMG GT, Audi R8, Ferrari roma and Porsche 911. Illustrious names as you can see, but the GT stands above all of them in features and performance, being also one of the most exclusive and expensive models in the category.

McLaren GT price

They say that everything in this life has a price, and in this case we are talking about a very high price. McLaren does not put anything accessible to be able to enter its range, but the GT becomes the access model to the English brand. Without established prices for the Spanish market, the McLaren GT has a UK starting price of £163.000, that translates to more than 200.000 euros with the currency exchange applied and the fees. A high value but that is in line with that of its most direct rivals.
