The 300 Mercedes 1954 SL marked an epoch in the history of Mercedes-Benz. That "Gull Wings" will be kept in the books as one of the most beautiful cars in the world. In 2010 the Germans wanted to recover the spirit of that legend. He did it with the SLS AMG, which, like its predecessor, mounted vertically opening doors. His disappearance left a space that was covered again in 2015 with the launch of the Mercedes AMG GT Coupé. At the end of 2023, Mercedes launches a major update for the sportiest model in the range.

Although without the characteristic gull-wing door opening, the GT Coupé was the ideal successor to keep alive the flame of sportiness in the German house. Long nose, rear cabin and shortened rear, anyone could draw the silhouette of the AMG GT Coupé. A car that, like its predecessors, is on its way to swell the golden pages of the long history that Mercedes accumulates behind it.

Although a replacement for the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé is not yet forthcoming, the brand continues to stretch its success with the launch of increasingly powerful units. since your arrival the sports coupé has gained power, spectacularity and sportiness thanks to special versions already a face lift that has kept it updated. The last of these special versions will be signed by Black Series, and promises not to leave anyone indifferent who sets their eyes on it.

Technical characteristics of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe

Mercedes is enough on its own to generate purebred sports cars. Just go over his story one more time. The AMG GT Coupé is the spearhead of technology and sportiness in the house. That is why it uses techniques that we do not see in any other model. A sports car needs power and low weight. For this, the use of light materials such as magnesium, aluminum or carbon fiber helps greatly. All of them have a place not only in the entrails but also in the thin layer that is their bodywork.

The Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé is made of lightweight materials that soften its weight on the scale. As tradition dictates, the new generation grows in size with respect to the outgoing model, reaching 4,73 meters long, 1,98 meters wide and 1,35 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,7 meters and a weight of 1.970 kilograms. We must also highlight a trunk with a minimum capacity of 321 liters, almost double that of the outgoing generation.

Mounting power in a sports car is relatively simple, the hard part is making it manageable. Mercedes has taken high technology out of hand like the active aerodynamics or rear axle steering. All this manages to create an epic driving experience. No less important is the braking system. Carboceramic discs of gigantic proportions allow to stop a Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé is capable of reaching extraordinary performance figures.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé

The AMG signature is a special imprint. Although the trainer is now part of the Mercedes structure, it continues to guarantee performance at the level of what is assumed for a beast in this category. Everything is exaggerated in the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé, including its engine. The most radical beast has one of the best gasoline engines in the world that does not succumb to modern electrified technologies, although it will.

While most of the range offers a four-liter biturbo V8 engine with a 9-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission, the entry-level model, presented in spring 2024, boasts a small two-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. . Recognizable under the name AMG GT 43 Coupé, offers 421 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 280 km/h. Thanks to its MHEV system, it is able to enjoy the ECO label from the DGT.

The V8 offer starts with the AMG GT 55 4MATIC that develops 476 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3,9 seconds and has a top speed of 295 km/h. Above him, for the moment, is the AMG GT 63 4MATIC. The same block is capable of raising performance up to 585 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. In this case the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 3,2 seconds with a top speed of 315 km/h.

Equipment of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe

The cabin of the AMG GT is prepared for a maximum of four passengers, although the rear seats are practically useless. It includes equipment that has nothing to envy to any of the luxury sedans from Mercedes. The quality is also up to expectations. Quality materials join an almost handmade manufacturing process. Finally, we must add the touch of sportiness provided by some finishes such as alcantara and carbon fiber.

In this way, if we look at the list of equipment elements of the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé, we discover elements such as matrix LED headlights, digital instrumentation, the latest generation MBUX system with a 12,8-inch panel, electric and heated seats, Head-Up Display, and a complete list of driving assistants such as parking cameras. Also we can have some extra elements for the mechanical part, such as carbon-ceramic disc brakes or various elements of the carbon fiber bodywork.

If we take a look at the models that are for sale in the VO channel in Spain, we see how the price fluctuates depending on the year of production and the model in question. Bearing this in mind, we see how different units have a range of prices between 75.000 and 190.000 euros.

The first price corresponds to a 2015 unit with 510 horses. At the other extreme, the price refers to the most exaggerated unit in the range, the 585-horsepower AMG GT Coupé R.
