In the spring of 2023 the last of its generations appears, the sixth under the name E. It is presented as a paradigm of technology, applying the new philosophy of design and interiors that it inherits from its older brothers such as the Mercedes S-Class and Mercedes EQS, the 100% electric version.

Technical characteristics of the Mercedes E-Class

Mercedes has ambitious electrical plans for the entire range. The 2023 E-Class is the last to be developed on a platform capable of housing combustion mechanics. The sixth generation reuses the old structure, although it undergoes modifications to deal with new electric formats with extended autonomy. As always, it offers various bodies such as the Mercedes E-Class Coupe and Cabrio and AllTerrain variants.

If we take the saloon as a reference, the size places it perfectly nestled in the E segment, growing with respect to the predecessor model. Its dimensions are 4,95 meters long, 1,88 meters wide and 1,48 meters high. To these dimensions we must add a weight on scale between 1.825 and 2.265 kilograms and a wheelbase of 2,96 centimeters (5 cm more than the previous unit).

The E-Class stands out for its versatile and family character. The interior space is generous even for five adult passengers, although the central rear seat is more uncomfortable and narrow than the one on the sides. Regarding load capacity the Mercedes E-Class offers a minimum boot volume of 540 liters (370 liters when talking about the PHEV). Said capacity rises to 615 liters for Estate and AllTerrain bodies.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Mercedes E-Class

As usual at Mercedes the mechanical offer of the E-Class is very wide and varied. We find traditional solutions, both diesel and gasoline, plug-in hybrid solutions and high-performance units collected under the umbrella of the AMG racing division. For its new generation, all the units in the range offer electrical systems with the DGT ECO (MHEV) or ZERO (PHEV) labels.

The range starts with E 220 d with a four-cylinder diesel engine, 197 horsepower and ECO label. Behind him stands the E200 gasoline with a two-liter engine, 204 horsepower and MHEV system. One step above we find the E 400 d with diesel block of six cylinders in line with 330 horsepower. The most powerful thermal version is the E 450 4MATIC, exclusive to the AllTerrain body. It offers 367 horsepower and ECO label.

As for the plug-in hybrid units with CERO label, E 300 e and E 400 eThey enjoy a large 25,4 kWh capacity battery associated with a set with a four-cylinder gasoline engine and a front electric block. Powers of 313 and 381 horsepower are registered, respectively, with electric autonomy of 118 and 111 kilometers. All units in the range come standard with gearboxes with eight or nine speeds that distribute the force between the rear axle or all four wheels.

At the moment, Mercedes has not detailed the prices of the sixth generation of the E-Class.
