It is estimated that one in four vehicles circulating around the world is a pick-up. The Mercedes X-Class It is the commitment of the German brand to get a small part of a world market with figures in the millions. From Germany we want to bring an elegant, classic and refined touch to a world that is generally used to working in harsh areas. The pick-ups are closer to the industrial than to the familiar, but Mercedes believes that both worlds can be linked.

The Mercedes X-Class was launched on the market in 2017 no rival within the premium category in sight, Ya que Audi y BMW they have not chosen to enter that fight. And time may have proved them right. The sales of the Mercedes pick-up are not going as well as expected, and that is why dark future plans are looming for a model that will hardly see a second generation.

Technical characteristics Mercedes-Benz X-Class

Mercedes is part of an international alliance with the Nissan-Renault group. This has been of great help for the development of the Mercedes X-Class, because in reality what has been done has been to convert the Nissan pick-up, the Nissan Navara, in a typical product of the signature of the star. Under its sculpted and delicate body we have a Japanese chassis. Long high-strength steel crossbars that will also be used as donors for other models of the conglomerate such as the Renault Alaskan.

Its measurements make clear evidence that we are talking about a purebred pick-up. 5,34 meters long, 1,92 meters wide and 1,82 meters high. Its ground clearance of up to 22 centimeters with low fairings and protectors, and its wading height of up to 60 centimeters allow it to enter difficult terrain with greater solvency. To all this we must add a load capacity of one tonne and a maximum towable mass of 3.500 kilograms. All this with an exclusive double cabin configuration with capacity for five passengers.

Mechanical range and gearboxes Mercedes-Benz Class X

At the time of its launch, the Mercedes X-Class had a wide range of mechanics, most of them original. Nissan. Today it is only for sale with a single variant, the most performant of all, which receives the name X 350 d 4MATIC. It is a turbocharged diesel V-six engine with three liters of displacement. Generates a maximum of 258 horsepower at 3.400 revolutions and a maximum torque of 550 Nm between 1.400 and 3.200 engine revolutions.

Attached to this block we find a seven-speed torque converter-type automatic gearbox which is called 7G-Tronic Plus. In turn, it is connected to a 4MATIC PLUS permanent all-wheel drive typical of the house that distributes the power of the engine in a 60-40 ratio. The use of a reducer allows to improve its capacities outside the asphalt, something that we must consider if we are going to carry out usual tasks on a pick-up. The same goes for the rear differential lock that comes as an option in the catalog of extras.

In terms of consumption, the data approved for the Mercedes X-Class 350 d 4MATIC is set at 10,2 liters per 100 kilometers in mixed cycle via the WLTP authentication protocol. This consumption is accompanied by CO2 emissions in the mixed cycle of 268 grams per kilometer. A result that makes it worthy of the environmental label B.

Equipment Mercedes-Benz X-Class

The Mercedes X-Class currently has two finishing lines; Progressive and Power. And as usual, Mercedes offers more equipment than its general rivals in order to give its models a more premium and differentiated touch.

The Progressive finish counts among its standard equipment with elements such as leather steering wheel and gear lever, automatic climate control, keyless start, cruise control, rain and light sensor, fog lights, gear shift paddles behind the steering wheel, and of course a extensive provision of safety elements and driving assistants such as the traffic sign reader, involuntary lane change alarm and braking assistant among other elements.

For its part, the Power finish is the highest in the range, and in addition to certain aesthetic changes with specific bumpers and 18-inch wheels, we have a Mercedes X-Class more equipped and closer to a tourism. Among its standard features are electric and heated rear-view mirrors, high-performance LED headlights, electronically adjustable front seats, reversing camera and an expanded safety kit.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class according to EuroNCAP

Given the extensive safety equipment and driving assistants, The Mercedes X-Class obtains the highest score in safety tests European Euro NCAP, five out of five possible stars. After the tests, the Mercedes pick-up shows excellent results in the protection of adult and child occupants, with a percentage of 90 and 87% respectively. The lowest safety data are those obtained in the case of pedestrian protection in the event of being run over, with barely 80% results.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class and its rivals

Since there is no other premium class pick-up on the European market, The Mercedes X-Class has no direct rivals for sale, at least in Europe. The closest rival is found in the aforementioned Nissan Navara. To him we can add other illustrious names of the category such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, volkswagen amarok or Mitsubishi L200. All of them in a price range well below what is set by Mercedes.

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class of Km0 and second hand

Being a relatively modern model, we remember that it went on sale in 2017, and not being a particularly successful model commercially, the number of Mercedes X-Class for sale in the second-hand and zero kilometer channel is quite limited. Despite this, and as we can see, the resale value remains constant and without a large depreciation, at least for the moment.

In this way we can find units of the X 220 d from 2017 with a Pure finish for an approximate price of 28.000 euros. Depending on the age of the vehicle and the type of engine that price can rise to levels above 50.000 euros, for 2019 units with the 258-horsepower six-cylinder engine. It will also depend on what level of equipment has been selected, with units with Progressive and Power finishes being more expensive.
