Throughout his life, Porsche It has established itself as one of the best sports car manufacturers in the world. However, man does not live on 911 alone, and for a few years its range has diversified into different bodies and models. The Porsche Panamera it is the firm's large saloon. A family of luxury and sports performance.

It was in 2010 when the Panamera became part of the Porsche family, becoming the fifth model in the current range to be sold, behind the Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayman, Porsche 911 and Porsche Cayenne. With it, the German manufacturer entered a segment that was not very popular in terms of sales, but a must for the largest manufacturers in the world, that of the F-segment luxury sedans.

The first generation was in force until 2016 when the second of its editions was launched on the market. In 2020 and 2024, this second generation undergoes two restylings., two profound facelifts that introduce a slightly changed appearance, more technology and more powerful and innovative mechanics, saying goodbye to diesel engines forever.

Technical characteristics of the Porsche Panamera

Despite being a large sedan, the Porsche Panamera offers sporty sensations unusual in its segment. Thanks to the active stabilizer bars and the limited-slip differential that the German brand incorporates as options in this model, the dynamic qualities improve considerably.

Over the years different bodies have been added to the Panamera family. On the one hand, the conventional saloon: 5,05 meters long, 1,94 meters wide and 1,42 meters high. On the other hand, the executive version 5,2 meters long, 1,94 meters wide and 1,43 meters high. After the last revision of the model in 2023, the Sport Turismo bodywork disappears from the range, barely adding units sold during its years of life.

These different levels leave us with different habitability. The normal Panamera and the Sport Turismo have the same wheelbase, 2,95 meters, while the Executive version has a few extra centimeters, 3,1 meters. These differences are also noticeable in the loading capacity. The Porsche Panamera offers a minimum trunk volume of 494 liters, a capacity that can be increased to 1.328 liters if the second row of seats is completely folded down.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Porsche Panamera

The high performance of the Porsche Panamera requires a mechanical range of imposing presence. With the 2020 restyling, the sedan says goodbye to diesel solutions to fall into the arms of electrified technologies. The current offer, given the recent release of the latest update, is staggered in three versions, two gasoline and three plug-in hybrid units. All of them come standard with an automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive system, with the exception of the access model that mounts a propulsion scheme as standard.

The range starts with the Panamera and Panamera 4. They mount a turbocharged three-liter V6 block that delivers in both cases 354 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. These are the only versions of the family that do not include an electrification system. In Spain they receive the C label from the DGT.

In the electrified family, in the first step of performance, we find the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid with 470 horsepower with an approved autonomy of 93 kilometers. After him is the version 4S E-Hybrid that stretches performance up to 544 horses with an official approved range of 90 kilometers. Lastly there is the Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid that develops 680 horses with an official autonomy of 91 kilometers. The whole family enjoys the same lithium-ion battery with 21,8 kWh net capacity and the DGT ZERO label.

Equipment of the Porsche Panamera

When talking about the interior of the Porsche Panamera, it is necessary to remember that we are talking about a luxury brand. Sportiness in family format is completed with the best possible materials. A mixture of leather, noble materials and Alcantara creates that luxury feeling, seasoned with typical competition materials such as carbon fiber. Thanks to this, the occupants travel with a high sensation of quality and comfort.

Porsche does not structure its range of equipment based on levels. The only possible levels are the same as the mechanics. The higher the power, the higher the price and the greater the equipment.. Even so, it could be said that the basic equipment is somewhat poor, but that can be solved with the extensive program of options and customization. Porsche Exclusive gives free rein to the imagination of each customer, being able to create combinations adapted to the taste of each one.

As far as equipment is concerned, the Porsche Panamera is one of the best-equipped luxury sedans in the world. Some elements to highlight are: LED matrix headlights, sunroof, digital instrument panel, Head-Up Display, four-zone climate control, 360º parking camera, connected services, connectivity for mobile devices and much more, including an extensive package safety measures and driving assistants.

El Porsche Panamera, along with the Cayenne and the Porsche Macan, have provided the German firm with the sales volume they needed to improve their income and market share. Contrary to what one might think, due to its positioning in the premium market, there is a large stock of the Panamera to get a semi-new or zero kilometer unit.

It is also true that the Porsche Panamera has a depreciation one of the lowest in its segment, located in the 22%. Thanks to this, we can find units of the previous generation with an average of 6 years and 150 thousand kilometers for a price of 37 thousand euros. At the top, we can find a Porsche Panamera Turbo finished Exclusive en 185 thousand euros.

Rivals of the Porsche Panamera

It is clear that the F-segment is not the most popular in the market in terms of sales. However, that does not mean that we can count several units that are directly positioned as rivals of the Panamera. Mercedes S-Class, BMW Serie 7, Jaguar XJ, Aston Martin Rapide, Maserati Quattroporte y Lexus LS They are the great figures that can stand up to the German. But the truth is none of them is able to match the performance offered by the Panamera in its most powerful versions.
