It was the month of December 2015 when the Porsche Mission E Concept was presented to the eyes of the whole world. It was the first sign that an unprecedented model in the Stuttgart house was ahead of us. Four years later, that first prototype saw the light of day as a street model, although in that case the name changed to Porsche Taycan.
It is the first 100% electric vehicle in the history of Porsche. A mid-size saloon that is presented as the current pinnacle of electric mobility. Its name comes from the Turkish alphabet, which translated into Spanish means "spirited young horse".. A very correct definition for the model.
Over the years, Porsche has been completing the range with different mechanical and body options. The classic sedan format is joined by two additional versions. A Taycan Cross Turismo with slightly raised suspension, and the Taycan Sport Turismo. The latter is the most recent in the fleet, being presented in November 2021. At the beginning of 2024 the entire family receives a major update focused on better performance with new features at a technical, aesthetic or technological level.
Technical characteristics of the Porsche Taycan
El Porsche Taycan It has stratospheric performance, not just for an electric car, for any car, really. It rests on a platform specifically developed for him, called PPE, although it is a modular structure that soon we will see in more models of the house such as the Porch Macan electric.
For its size, the Taycan is a step below the Porsche Panamera. Its external measurements reach 4,96 meters long (4,97 for the Cross Turismo), 1,97 meters wide and 1,38 meters high. To these dimensions we must add an aerodynamic coefficient of only 0,22, a minimum weight of 2,215 kilograms, and a wheelbase of 2,9 meters fixed for all versions.
This battle allows you to offer an interior space for a maximum of five passengers, although there is also the possibility of choosing a four-seater configuration. The Porsche Taycan has two trunks, one front and one rear. The total charging capacity varies depending on the version. The volume ranges from 447 liters for the Tycan Turbo to 530 liters for the Taycan Cross Turismo. These volumes can grow when folding down the second row of seats.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Porsche Taycan
The Porsche Taycan is a 100% electric model. Its scheme presents units with a single motor and others with a dual motor. In all cases, these motors are connected to a lithium ion battery liquid-cooled with different capacities depending on the version chosen. There are two levels: 82,3 useful kWh and 97 useful kWh of capacity.
The access version, called Taycan, offers 435 horsepower. At a higher level, and thanks to the long-range battery, a Taycan with 476 horsepower is offered. From there we go to Taycan 4S with access or long-range battery with 598 horsepower. Finally, the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S are located in the highest echelons with powers that reach 884 and 952 horsepower, respectively. The latest member of the family is the impressive Taycan Turbo GT with 1.033 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2,2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 305 km/h.
Regarding autonomies, the ranges depend to a large extent on the selected unit. Such is so the distances are between 561 and 680 kilometers. When it comes to recharging, the Porsche Taycan presents the highest power of an electric vehicle at the moment, up to 320 kW in direct current and 11 kW in alternating current. Thanks to this, recharging times can be considerably reduced. Just 18 minutes to recover from 10 to 80% in an ultra-fast charging socket.
Equipment of the Porsche Taycan
The Taycan is not only one of the most spectacular and fastest electric cars in the world, it is also a high-quality sedan that is very complete in its equipment. Enjoy excellent materials that give the occupants a feeling of elevated comfort. Leather, carbon fiber or Alcantara are just a sample of it.
As usual in the house, the range of equipment is divided into the levels of power and performance of the car itself. In this way, and today, the portfolio is staggered in several levels: Taycan, 4S, 4S extended battery, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S and GT, identical in all bodies. Outwardly they are all practically the same, except for small details, but behind the scenes, technology grows hand in hand with performance.
As far as equipment is concerned, the Taycan enjoys the most advanced elements developed by the Volkswagen Group. The list of details is extensive, and among all it is worth highlighting: LED matrix headlights, instrument panel with a 16,8-inch curved panel, a multimedia system with a 10,9-inch screen and much more. Much of the equipment in the improvement of dynamics, such as carbon-ceramic discs or the directional rear axle.

Despite its electric status, the Porsche Taycan is one of the safest models on the market. After being subjected to Euro NCAP tests and impact tests, it received the highest score: 5 stars. The percentages achieved in the different sections are as follows. In the event of an impact, protection for adult occupants amounts to 85 percent. For minor occupants and children, the percentage is 83 percent. 70 percent protection in case of hitting pedestrians or cyclists. Finally, it achieves 73 percent in the ADAS section. These ratings do not change after the 2024 update.

Despite having been on sale for a short time and not being an affordable or cheap model, the Taycan has managed to reap great commercial success, surpassing other models in the family such as the Panamera. Despite this, alternative sales channels do not offer many units for sale. In such markets an excellent depreciation close to 18 percent is observed, one of the best data in the sector.
Considering the situation, the cheapest units They date from the end of 2020 with versions of mechanical access and low mileage for a price close to 96.900 euros. Today, the number of Porsche Taycan rivals it is very limited. It is for its technical approach and for the positioning chosen in the premium market. Even so, there are several alternatives that are at the same level, even for exclusivity and price. The most similar is Tesla Model S, although it does not have the same pedigree as the German. The Aston Martin Rapide E., which has an even smaller diffusion and a more limited technical level. To them we can add other units such as the The Audi e-tron GT and Mercedes EQS. None of them offer the characteristics of the Taycan, although they are rivals for electrical concept.
