Skoda has always sold practical cars, it is the main core of their sales, and they apply this philosophy to each new model they bring to market. The Skoda Kamiq It is the smallest of the house and the last SUV to join the family. A family completed by his older brothers, the Skoda Karoq and Skoda Kodiaq.
We have tested this car:
Test Skoda Kamiq 1.0 TSI 116 CV Style Manual 6vThe Skoda Kamiq made its first appearance at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Despite the fact that its name had already been used on a compact crossover destined for the Chinese market since June 2018, it appeared on the European market as a new model from the Czech firm that receives a slight update in the summer of 2023. The only B- SUV's Skoda, a car called to be more popular than its older brothers.
As usual, the Kamiq embodies the design philosophy of the house. A very particular style that uses the trend of dividing the headlights into two. On the back it takes many ideas from other models of the firm, as is the case with the skoda scala. Although not especially highlighting in any section, the Czech B-SUV meets all that it promises.
Technical characteristics of the Skoda Kamiq
The Skoda brand belongs to the Volkswagen Group conglomerate. Thanks to this, in the development of the Kamiq they have taken advantage of the immense warehouse of available parts. The MQB-A0 platform is hidden under the body, the same used by other products such as Volkswagen T-Cross, Skoda Fabia and SEAT Arona.
The Skoda Kamiq is a model of the B-SUV segment, as shown by its measurements: 4,25 meters long, 1,79 meters wide and 1,53 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,65 meters, enough battle for a maximum of five passengers to fit inside, although three members in the back row may be too many, so two are better.
The usual practicality of Skoda is noticeable in the habitability and the cargo volume. The trunk of the Skoda Kamiq offers a minimum capacity of 400 liters, expandable to 1.395 liters when we fold down the second row of seats. As it is an SUV, it is necessary to record some somewhat limited off-road dimensions, where the best figure belongs to the free height with respect to the ground, 18,8 centimeters.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Skoda Kamiq
When it comes to mobilizing the Kamiq, Skoda has opted for a full range of engines, although none of them have electrified systems. Nor does it have diesel engines, as they have been removed from the range. Currently the mechanical portfolio enjoys three gasoline versions and a unit powered by CNG gas called 1.0 TGI with 90 horsepower.
As for the rest of the engines, all of them gasoline, the offer starts with the 1.0 TSI. A three-cylinder, turbocharged block that is capable of delivering two power levels: 95 and 110 horsepower. They are available in low and medium finishes. The upper level is occupied by the tetracylindrical block 1.5 TSI. Turbocharged engine that in this case has a power of 150 horsepower. It is only available with the highest finishes in the range.
In all cases, the Skoda Kamiq transfers power from the engine to the front axle without the possibility of integrating a typical all-wheel drive of the house. As for the gearboxes, all units come standard with a five- or six-speed manual gearbox, but only the 1.0 TSI 110 hp and 1.5 TSI 150 hp blocks can mount a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission.
Equipment of the Skoda Kamiq
Inside the small Kamiq is offered as a very well presented SUV. It is one of the first products of the house to enjoy state-of-the-art technologies. The sense of perceived quality is high thanks to well-chosen materials. Although the presence of hard plastics is high, soft surfaces with a pleasant touch are also present. Of course, all finished off with the usual Skoda manufacturing care.
As usual, the range of equipment is divided into different levels up to a total of four: Essence, Selection, Design and Monte Carlo, slightly updated from 2023. Although the differences in equipment between them are notable, they are also the aesthetic changes that the model undergoes when going from a base finish to a more sporty or country style one. Of course, the price is also increased in this process.
As far as equipment is concerned, the Kamiq it does not forget to include any of those technologies that today are considered practically essential. It is worth highlighting elements such as: Full LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, sunroof, digital instrument panel, parking camera, multimedia system with touch screen up to 9,2 inches, connectivity for mobile devices and much more. Of course, it does not dispense with safety elements and driving assistants.

The evaluating body determined the B-SUV with its highest score, five stars, after the hard tests carried out. Breaking down by sections, the Kamiq obtained a safety score of 96% for adult occupants, 85% for child occupants, 80% for vulnerable road users and 76% for safety assistants. These valuations remain valid after the 2023 update as no changes were made to the structure of the vehicle.
The Skoda Kamiq of Km 0 and second hand
Given the youth of the model, the Kamiq was launched on the market in mid-2019, it still does not have a wide range in secondary sales channels. Nor are we talking about a model with a high number of sales, something that does not help. The few units available show us that its depreciation percentage is slightly below the usual in the segment, around 25-27%.
The second-hand channel is offered as the cheapest to get the services of the Skoda Kamiq, The cheapest units have an approximate starting price of 18.000 euros. Early 2020 models with access mechanics and finishes. The Km 0 market is almost the majority in this case. Many unused units or with few kilometers are offered with prices similar to those offered in the catalogue, although there are interesting offers.
Rivals of the Skoda Kamiq
The SUV utility segment is on track to become the most popular in the industry. It is currently the fastest growing in sales volume. That makes all manufacturers bet on that niche, trying to find a reasonable fee. That leaves us with a long list of rivals to which the Skoda Kamiq must face. Among the many present are: Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Hyundai Kona, KIA Sonic, Ford Puma, Nissan Juke, FIAT 500X, Opel Mokka, Mazda CX-3, and Honda HR-V, among others, in addition to the aforementioned group brothers, the Ateca, the Listen Q2 and the Volkswagen T-Cross.
