Although Toyota is known for its hybrid vehicles, the Aygo X Cross's target market is very focused on selling price. In order to keep costs as low as possible, the development of the new SUV only contemplates low-power thermal engines. At its launch, the range is limited to a gasoline mechanic, having ruled out any type of electrification.

The engine in question is a naturally aspirated block of three cylinders and 998 cubic centimeters. develop 72 horsepower at 6.000 revolutions and a maximum torque of 93 Nm at 4.400 revolutions. A five-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard, but it can be optionally coupled to a CVT automatic gearbox. In all versions, the engine power is allocated to the front axle without the possibility of mounting an all-wheel drive scheme.

The urban segment has never stood out for the excellent execution of its materials. The Aygo X Cross offers a well-presented cabin with a very youthful approach.ill. Despite this, the quality of the materials used, mainly plastics, fails to generate an optimal sensation of perceived quality for the occupants.

As usual in the brand, the equipment offer is divided into different finishes. There are three options available, from less to more endowment we find: Play, Like and Chic. Each of them offers a slightly different aspect, being able to go from a more basic and sober finish to a more attractive one with different customization elements and particular details.

Customization options will be generous given the youthful focus, and in terms of on-board technology. The present technology is not very outstanding, but it is still worth mentioning elements such as the multimedia system with a 9-inch screen, connectivity for mobile devices, wireless charger, and air conditioning. A small but discreet provision of safety elements and driving assistants is also added.

Despite its small size, in the summer of 2022 the Toyota Aygo X Cros undergoes the Euro NCAP safety tests where it receives a rating of four stars out of five possible, being one of the best rated in the category. The results by sections are as follows: 78 out of 100 in adult passenger protection, 78 out of 100 in child passenger protection, 74 out of 100 in pedestrian vulnerability and 81 out of 100 in driving assistants.

Rivals of the Toyota Aygo X Cross

When establishing rivals, it must be recognized that the A-SUV segment is one of the least explored by brands at a commercial level. The supply of said market is limited, subtracting rival models for the Toyota AygoX Cross. Despite this, possible alternatives are offered, such as: FIAT Panda, Ford EcoSport y Suzuki Ignis. All of them are similar in size, with the Aygo being one of the smallest of the list.
