In general terms, we could say that this new A290 is the most radical and radical version of the Renault 5 E-Tech that the French have pulled out of their hat for the 21st century market. However, it is still much more than that, since in effect it involves both the consolidation of Alpine as an individual brand, premium and sporty within the Renault consortium as the achievement of one of the main ideas that Luca de Meo has since he arrived at the largest seat of the diamond manufacturer. Let us remember that already at FIAT and SEAT he relaunched Abarth and Cupra, so the expectation is fulfilled that, with the Italians, passion will never die.

The fact is that this small electric rocket, almost 4 meters long, based on the AmpR Small platform, inherits the main features of the new R5, increasing, however, its aggressiveness with more marked lines, specific bumpers and wheels (19 inches) and, of course, with a reinforced chassis in many of its points.

As an example, a button: the tracks are 60 mm wider; the multi-link rear axle, unusual in the category, allows very precise adjustment of the wheel position; and the front and rear stabilizers They guarantee the firmness necessary to get all the performance out of the propulsion system. In addition, as if that were not enough, the weight in the front axle has been slightly reduced to remain below a ton and a half (1.479 kg to be exact.)

Engines, versions and price of the new Alpine A290

The range of the new Alpine A290 will be made up of four finishes (GT, GT Premium, Performance and GTS) with two different engines. The first two will have 180 HP and 285 Nm of torque, while the last two will increase their strength to 220 HP and 300 Nm of torque. All will be front-wheel drive and all will have a 52 kWh capacity battery for about 380 km of expected autonomy.

In terms of performance, the most capable ones promise a top speed up to 170 km/h (10 km/h more than the GT) and 0 to 100 km/h in 6,4 seconds (one second faster than the 290 HP A180.)
