For several months now, rumors have suggested that Audi I was working on a special new version of its already iconic supercar, the Audi R8. If the river makes a noise its because water is running; and so it has been. It seems that this edition could be the last of the R8 as we know it, one last cry.

Be that as it may, this special edition is presented under the name Audi R8 Coupe V10 GT RWD. It will only be available in coupe bodywork and with rear wheel drive, giving up the mythical quattro drive but adding that extra bit of fun. As for production, 333 units will be manufactured for everyone at a price of $225.000.

Twelve years ago there was already an Audi R8 GT, corresponding to the first generation of the model.

Aesthetically it is easy to differentiate this Audi R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD from the rest of the range. It comes with a clear “R8 GT” lettering in black on the back, but also adds a “Carbon Aerokit” very marked and developed in a wind tunnel, made up of pieces in carbon fiber like the front splitter, side skirts, a multitude of appendages, a prominent spoiler and a more pronounced diffuser.

Meanwhile in the interior the black and red tones are combined with carbon fiber. These details are present in the seat belts, in the mats and in the highly marked seats that it equips. By the way, each car carries the unit numbering in the gear lever area.

The bodywork is offered in matt Suzuka Gray colors (the one we see in the images), in Tangorto Metallic and in Daytona Gray Metallic.

But logically, a swan song you should not settle for just visual changes. In this case we are before the most powerful rear-wheel drive Audi in history. Its 10-liter V5.2 raises its performance to the 620 CV. We remember that the Audi R8 RWD Performance stays in the 570. In addition to those 620 CV it also develops 565 Nm, rising in turns up to 8.700 rpm.

As a result, you get an acceleration of 0 to 100 km / h in 3,4 seconds and its top speed is 320 km/h. To improve efficiency, the 7-speed S Tronic gearbox has been revised, now offering faster gear changes and a modified gear ratio.

On the other hand, the engineers have configured the electronics to make it easier to skid with it, integrating a Torque Rear mode. We can select up to 7 operating levels for traction control, with level 1 being very non-permissive and level 7 being the one that leaves the rear axle slipping the most.

Finally, the total weight of the set has been lightened by about 20 kilos, equipping forged wheels, ceramic brakes and suspension with a specific front stabilizer bar. For the most demanding customers, an easily manually adjustable suspension is offered to modify the compression and rebound.
