BMW M3 CS: Now with 550 HP and more than 300 km/h

BMW presents the new generation of BMW M3 CS, a limited edition which adds even more character to the sports range of the German saloon. Its production will begin next March, at the Munich plant, although the brand has not yet confirmed the exact number of cars that will be manufactured. In any case, there will not be too many.

The BMW M3 CS is characterized by its differentiation aesthetics regarding the M3 range "normal", but especially for its technical improvements to increase performance to the limit. They are aerodynamic modifications, tuning of the chassis and greater engine performance. Let's see.

Lots of carbon fiber and maximum aggressiveness

BMW M3 CS rear

Visually striking body kit, drawing heavily on the carbon fiber, as can be seen. In addition to the roof, this M3 CS uses fiber on the bonnet, front splitter, front air intakes, exterior mirror housings, rear diffuser and spoiler.

To this must be added the sharp shapes, which give that extra aggressiveness. To name a few details, the most striking are the two chiseled slits on the bonnet, the front splitter, the front air intakes, the M exterior mirror caps, the rear spoiler and apron combined with the black side skirts and trims. M. Look also at the main calender or at the exquisite LED laser headlights in yellow tone.

We also find lots of carbon fiber in much of the interior, as in the console, in the steering wheel paddles and some moldings, as well as in the M bucket seats. In the same way, the passenger compartment presents a frankly sporty aesthetic in each and every one of the details.

550 hp and over 300 km/h for the BMW M3 CS

But what we really like is the overall performance. Starting with the engine, this BMW M3 CS uses the 3.0-liter six-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo, but suitably improved. So much so that it increases its power by 40 CV, so the final performance is 550 CV between 6.250 and 7.200 rpm, in addition to 650 Nm of torque from 2.750 to almost 6.000 turns.

BMW M3 CS engine

There is no lack of a good exhaust system with electronically controlled butterflies and a titanium rear silencer, which gives rise to the legendary four exhaust outlets finished in black. In the Sport and Sport+ driving modes, the exhaust noise is intensified, as is usual.

Meanwhile, all this energy passes through a 8-speed Steptronic gearbox. The traction is to the four wheels, with the variable M xDrive system. It has an active rear differential and the power distribution can be configured in three modes, which are 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD, in the latter sending all the torque to the rear wheels.

The main performance figures are a 0 to 100 in 3,4 seconds or a 0 to 200 in 11,1. It can also recover from 80 to 120 km/h in just 2,6 seconds (in fourth gear) and achieve a top speed of 302 km/h.

Chassis, electronics and tuning properly revised

But all of the above is worth little without a good tuning and adaptation to the new features. Chassis technology has been tweaked, configuring the DSC system and M Dynamic mode to drive at the limit on track. But not only that.

Individually adjusted axle kinematics and tailor-made settings for the camber angle of the wheels, shock absorbers, helper springs and anti-roll bars serve to optimize steering precision, the transmission of lateral control forces when cornering, the response of the springs and dampers and the location of the wheels.

Similarly, steering M Servotronic variable ratio and electronically controlled dampers have a specific configuration.

BMW M3 CS rims

Regarding the brakes, it comes with a “conventional” equipment as standard, but it is probably more than interesting to switch to the M carbon-ceramics if you are going to ride on the circuit; which will undoubtedly offer more guarantees in extreme driving. As for the tires, are forged as standard, with 19 inches in front and 20 in the rear, wearing tires 275/35 ZR19 and 285/30ZR20 respectively.

We will have to wait a few months for the German brand to pronounce specifically on the number of units it will manufacture of the BMW M3 CS and, of course, also on prices. Although you can already imagine that it will not be easy to access due to exclusivity and economy.
