El BMW Serie 5 It is one of the most famous and well-known large sedans on the European market. The latest generation model shares the platform with the outgoing generation, the famous CLAR architecture which is modified to include a more varied range of engines, highlighting the introduction of the 5% electric BMW i100. It is used in a wide variety of models from the house, from its older and smaller brothers, to models with a more daring and risky approach such as the BMW Serie 8. It is characterized by its longitudinal mechanics, its rear-wheel drive, and for being developed in light materials.
As it is a scalar base, it is capable of adapting to different models with slight tweaks. In the case of the BMW 5 Series, dimensions of 5,06 meters, 1,90 wide and 1,51 meters high. These measures represent a considerable increase with respect to the outgoing model. For the first time, the psychological barrier of five meters is overcome in the German company's average sedan.
To the aforementioned dimensions we must add a wheelbase of 2,99 meters. A measure that generates a large interior space approved for five passengers. At the moment only the saloon bodywork has been announced, although it will soon have a family version under the Touring surname. Regarding load capacity, The 5 Series offers 520 liters of minimum trunk volume for all its versions.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the BMW 5 Series
Except for the largest engines of all, intended exclusively for the largest models of the house, the BMW 5 Series sports one of the most extensive and varied mechanical ranges of the house. The engine range consists of diesel, gasoline and plug-in hybrid units associated with automatic gearboxes. In addition, we must add the most extreme version of the family, the powerful BMW M5. At the moment it has not been updated, but we do know that it will arrive with a high-performance PHEV mechanics.
By power, the range starts with the version 520d. It has a two-liter four-cylinder diesel block that offers 197 horsepower. As standard, it sends all the power to the rear axle and, optionally, it can distribute the power to all four wheels through xDrive traction. Below is the 520 with two-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that offers 208 horsepower and 310 Nm of maximum torque.
The most performance units come associated with a plug-in hybrid scheme. He 530e starts the offer with a maximum power output of 300 horses. The electrical part is powered by a lithium-ion battery with 19,4 kWh of net capacity that manages to approve 103 kilometers of electric autonomy. The most powerful is the 550e with 489 horsepower and 90 kilometers of electric range approved. Both units present the DGT ZERO label.

With almost 50 years behind it, the BMW 5 Series is one of the longest-lasting and most successful sedans on the market. Despite its premium concept, its reputation for quality and durability results make it a much-desired model in used and second-hand channels. Depending on the generation, the version and the body, the prices of the 5 Series can fluctuate quite a bit. The cheapest units are found for just 1.000 euros. If we move to Km 0 market the offer is more limited since, due to its price, dealers do not accumulate stock.

Since its birth, back in 1972, the BMW 5 Series has faced tough competition. Although initially it only had to fight with just a couple of models, today the range of rivals is wider. Stand out above all Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6. But it is fair to add other models with an identical approach, such as the Jaguar XF, Lexus ES or Volvo S90. The 5 Series doesn't come cheap. Its size, its quality, its equipment and its range of engines make it a high-priced car. The starting price of the BMW 5 Series is set at 60.050 euros for the 520d diesel with standard finish. The most expensive of the family is the BMW 550e xDrive with 489 horsepower and ZERO label. Its basic rate starts at 88.250 euros, without offers or promotions.
