The BMW 7 Series is the pinnacle of quality and technique from the Bavarian house. The BMW 7 Series is a sedan that borders on luxury. Belonging to the F segment, it is mainly used as a representation vehicle for the highest dignitaries in the world. A car that has its SUV mirror on the BMW X7, recently updated in its first generation.

Much more history is accumulated by the 7 Series. BMW He presented it in society in 1977. Since then it has positioned itself as the most luxurious model of the house. Today the BMW 7 Series already accumulates seven generations, the last one presented in the spring of 2022 and that makes the previous model obsolescent, the BMW 7 Series from 2015.

Technical characteristics of the BMW 7 Series

The BMW GKL range refers to the largest and most luxurious models of the house. The 7 Series falls into that category, and therefore under its new and interesting bodywork hides the largest format of the CLAR platform. A structure made of light materials such as aluminium. A platform that was already used by the previous generation and that has been minimally updated.

Being considered the largest model in the house means that its measurements are significantly extended. The seventh generation 7 Series reaches 5,39 meters long, 1,95 meters long and 1,54 meters wide. These dimensions refer to the extended battle body, reaching 3,21 meters of wheelbase.

In the not too distant future, smaller bodies will be presented. In all cases, the interior space is arranged for four or five passengers. In a limousine format, the 7 Series adopts two luxury seats in the rear. As for the load volume, the trunk of the 7 Series announces a total of 540 liters of capacity, not being able to expand since the rear bench seat is fixed.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the BMW 7 Series

For its new generation, BMW has presented the most varied mechanical offer in the history of the model. A portfolio that has diesel engines and plug-in hybrids, in addition to the first 100% electric variant collected under the name BMW i7. All versions are accompanied by an automatic gearbox and a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive format depending on performance.

By power, the range starts with the only diesel in the family, the 740d xDrive with a turbocharged three-liter six-cylinder engine that develops 299 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque. Thanks to the homologation formats, BMW incorporates a micro-hybrid system (MHEV) that allows the diesel saloon to homologate the DGT ECO label. Which is an advantage for urban commuting.

In a superior electrified format we find the PHEV units, both with a three-liter six-cylinder petrol engine with a lithium-ion battery with 18,7 kWh net capacity. On one side is the 750e xDrive with 490 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque and on the other the 760e xDrive with 571 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. The approved electric autonomies reach 87 and 85 kilometers, respectively.

Equipment of the BMW 7 Series

BMW 7 Series interior

The consideration of BMW's flagship not only comes from the format or the mechanical offer, but also from the wide technological offer and the quality of its finishes. The interior of the 7 Series shows an impressive layout with a wide array of screens and touch systems. It has quality materials such as leather, wood or carbon fiber to increase the feeling of comfort of its passengers.

As expected, BMW applies the traditional trim levels to the 7 Series. The offer revolves, for the moment, around the versions: Series and M Sport. In addition to differences at a technological level, the greatest disparities are found at an aesthetic level or in finishes. The model with a greater sports focus has particular details and elements that make it look more colorful and attractive with slightly superior finishes.

As far as equipment is concerned, the new 7 Series lands with exceptionally unique elements. Technologies such as laser headlights, LED decorative moldings, Head-Up Display, front multimedia system with 14,9-inch screen and, above all, the BMW Theater Screen consisting of a large 31-inch screen and 8K quality for the entertainment of rear occupants.
