El SEAT Ateca it is the jewel in the crown, the midsize SUV destined to control and dominate the market. Its launch took place in 2016. However, the European B-SUV segment is the fastest growing in the industry, and to succeed in it, the Spanish brand launched the SEAT Arona. Later, and with the intention of completing the country family, it was the turn of the SEAT Tarraco, the largest model.

Therefore, the SEAT Arona is the first urban-style all-roader offered by the Spanish firm. It was first presented to the public at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, albeit as a prototype. Finally, the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show was in charge of experiencing its commercial launch in 2017. In the year 2021 he undergoes a facelift, a restyling that brings his design closer to that of his brother the Cupra-Formentor.

Keeping the tradition in SEAT, the name Arona refers to a small town located in Tenerife (Canary islands spain). Unlike other models of the brand. Currently the Arona is in its first generation without having been renewed with a mid-cycle restyling, something that will most likely happen in 2021.

Technical characteristics of the SEAT Arona

Correspondingly, the SEAT Arona uses a large number of components shared with its brothers from the Volkswagen Group. Under its body hides the MQB-A0 platform of the German conglomerate, the same platform that we can see in other sister products of the house, such as the Seat Ibiza, Audi A1 or Volkswagen T-Cross, direct rival within the B-SUV segment.

For the specific case of the Arona, the platform undergoes slight modifications to show some external dimensions that take it to the 4,14 meters long, 1,78 meters wide and 1,55 meters high. To these levels we must add a wheelbase of 2,56 meters, a battle that translates into an interior space approved for a maximum of five passengers.

Despite this, the rear bench supports better four than five passengers, since the distance between shoulders is not excessively generous and with an annoying transmission tunnel, despite not having all-wheel drive versions. As for the trunk volume, the SEAT Arona formalizes a minimum of 400 liters for the thermal versions and 282 liters for the gas-powered ones.

Mechanical range and gearboxes SEAT Arona

As has become customary within the industry, the mechanical range of the Arona gets rid of diesel engines altogether, leaving us with a portfolio that has three gasoline versions and one CNG gas version. The latter, called 1.0 TGI, shows the access power, 90 horses. It is always associated with a six-speed manual gearbox and offers the DGT ECO label and a 9-litre petrol tank and a 13,8-kg capacity gas tank.

As for the offer of gasoline engines, the Arona uses two different engines. the access, 1.0 TSI, enjoy a turbocharged three-cylinder block with 999 cubic centimeters that develops two different powers: 95 and 100 horsepower. Associated with that engine we can find a five or six-speed manual gearbox, and optionally a seven-speed automatic.

The largest block in the family is the 1.50 EcoTSI. In this case, the engine now has four cylinders, turbocharging and 1.498 cubic centimeters of displacement. develop 150 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. In this case, there is no doubt, it always comes associated with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. As we have already mentioned, the Arona does not have all-wheel drive variants.

Equipment of the SEAT Arona

One of the axes on which the 2021 renovation revolves is the interior. The interior of the Arona receives better finishes, although the feeling of quality is still not the best in the category. Materials with a better touch and feel are complemented by a greater technological offer. Despite being a restyling, the interior changes to be more similar to other models of the house.

The range of finishes for the Arona is segmented into four different levels: Reference, Style, X-Perience and FR. In each one of them, not only the technological or equipment load is modified, but also the exterior appearance is slightly modified, being able to go from a sober appearance to a more attractive one thanks to larger wheels, up to 18 inches, and a more country approach in the X-Perience finish.

As far as equipment is concerned, the SEAT Arona can enjoy many typical elements of higher segments, something that makes it one of the best-equipped B-SUVs on the market. Elements such as Full LED headlights, keyless entry and start, sunroof, digital instrument panel, connectivity for mobile devices, multimedia system with a screen of up to 9,2 inches and a large team of assistants and security elements should be highlighted.
