If there is any vitally important segment in the market today, it is the C-SUV segment. All the brands have smelled blood, and for that reason they jump into the market hoping to capture a piece of that big pie. The Jaguar E PACE It is the representative of the English brand in such an important segment. A premium bet that has a hard job ahead of it.

This is the second SUV that Jaguar put up for sale. The first option of the English house was to bet on a higher segment, hence the prompt arrival of the Jaguar F‑PACE. However, the arrival of the smaller variant was necessary. El E-PACE landed on the market in 2017. In 2021 Jaguar introduces a facelift, a mid-cycle restyling with aesthetic, technological and mechanical innovations.

In a short time the E-PACE has carved a niche for itself in the premium C-SUV trio. His rivals have been in the market longer and that has earned the Englishman to learn from his mistakes. It has everything that is required of a good Jaguar; quality, equipment and comfort are your primary keys. But we must not forget that within the group we find Land Rover, and therefore the E-PACE is the best in its class off the asphalt.

Technical characteristics of the Jaguar E-PACE

Unlike other models of the English firm, the Jaguar E-Pace is not developed on the same aluminum platform that gives life to the Jaguar XE y Jaguar XF. In this case, the E-Pace is built on the same base as the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport, therefore the three can be considered twin brothers rather than twins, and prepared for new mechanics.

The LR-MS architecture leaves us with standard measurements within the C-SUV segment. 4,39 meters long, 1,98 meters wide and 1,65 meters high. To these measures we must add a battle of 2,68 meters. Distance that marks a maximum capacity of five occupants. The volume of cargo in your trunk ranges between 470 liters minimum capacity and the 1.234 liters of maximum capacity. Figures somewhat lower than those of its rivals.

Where the Jaguar E-PACE does stand out is in its behavior off the asphalt. Most of the mechanical range can be associated with an all-wheel drive. To that 4×4 capacity we must add some very good offroad dimensions: 22,8 degrees of approach angle, 29,4 degrees of departure angle and 21,1 degrees of breakover angle. It is completed by a free height of 20,4 centimeters and a wading height of half a meter.

Jaguar E-PACE mechanical range and gearboxes

The 2020 facelift has largely served to introduce new mobility systems to the Jaguar E-Pace range. In the new mechanical portfolio of the E-Pace we find: two diesel versions, four gasoline versions and a plug-in hybrid. The latter, called P300e, has a three-cylinder petrol block, two electric motors and a 15 kWh capacity battery. It develops a maximum of 309 horses and has 55 kilometers of electric autonomy.

The diesel division starts with the rear-wheel drive manual D165. Equip a block of four cylinders and two liters that develops 163 horsepower. Next up is the automatic D165 AWD. It generates the same power as the previous case, but with the important novelty of include an MHEV system that manages to reduce consumption and emissions. Finally, the automatic D200 AWD. With the 2.0 Ingenium block it reaches 204 horsepower, and once again it consists of an MHEV scheme with which it manages to certify the ECO label.

The branch of gasoline engines is more performance. It starts with the 160-horsepower P160 FWD automatic and MHEV system. It consists of a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, while his older brothers have a block of four cylinders and two liters. The P200 MHEV and P250 MHEV versions develop 200 and 249 horsepower, respectively, with all-wheel drive and automatic gearbox. Finally, the P300 AWD automatic with 300 horsepower and MHEV technology.

Jaguar E-PACE Equipment

From doors to inside the E-PACE makes a good show of the premium category that is presupposed. Good finishes thanks to good materials that give an excellent feeling of quality. To that feeling we must add a lot of technology, even from its access level. We have three aesthetic trim lines: Base, R-Dynamics and 300 Sport. With them we manage to modify the exterior appearance, going from a simple finish to a more sporty one.

Once the exterior aspect has been chosen, we can opt for two trim levels: S and SE. Taking a look at the base equipment we find a multitude of elements. Such as: 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, Touch Pro multimedia system with 11,4-inch screen, dual-zone climate control, light and rain sensors, electronically folding rearview mirrors, and excellent safety equipment and driving assistants.

To that long list we can add much more equipment. Some of it will focus on customize the Jaguar E-PACE to the personal taste of each customer. Multitude of customization options that do not come cheap. And to that, of course, many more technological elements such as the sunroof, LED matrix headlights, digital instrument panel, electric trunk lid, 360-degree camera, keyless entry and start, leather upholstery, Head-Up Display and the most complete team of driving assistants.

Today, manufacturers have to face safety tests focused mainly on four aspects: safety for adult and child passengers, pedestrian protection and operation of driving assistants. Taking this as a reference, the Jaguar E-PACE has been awarded top marks, five stars for him. Remarkable were the results in the protection of both child and adult passengers. These results are still valid in the 2020 renewal as there is no substantial change in the structure of the vehicle.

The Jaguar E-PACE of Km 0 and second hand

The E-PACE is the entry model to Jaguar's SUV range. This makes its sales volumes higher than those of its big brother, the F-PACE. Although we are talking about a relatively new model, the E-PACE accumulates a good offer in the second-hand and occasion channels, where it shows a average depreciation percentage, but somewhat lower than its most immediate competition.

The lowest prices start at figures close to 30.000 euros, generally with a diesel engine, medium finish and low mileage. We can find this same pattern in the Km 0 channel. E-PACE sales are strong, encouraging dealers to stock up with good deals. Although these offers correspond mainly to mid-range models. In this case the prices skyrocket, never being less than 40.000 euros.

Jaguar E-PACE rivals

where to start The C-SUV segment is the most popular in our market and in the European market. All brands have at least one model in that segment. The offer is wide and varied in brands and models, even within the premium category. The E-PACE has been the last of this trio to arrive, and therefore has to face very tough competition that will not make things easy for it. Its most direct rivals are: Listen Q3, BMW X1, Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes GLA y Volvo XC40. All of them similar both in price and size.

Jaguar E-PACE prices

As usual with Jaguar, the asking prices are not entirely popular. The E-PACE competes in the premium segment and its bet is directed at a high selling price. That said, in the most economical of cases, the Jaguar E-PACE has a starting price of 58.350 euros, without offers or promotions. This value corresponds to a base unit with mechanical P160 MHEV automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. The most expensive units in the family are the plug-in hybrids, with a minimum starting price of 62.700 euros for a P300e unit with R-Dynamic S trim.
