Electric mobility is the most thriving mobility in the future in the medium and short term. All the brands are taking their first steps on the market, offering the first solutions that will become the backbone of the range in the future. The Kia EV6 It is considered the first electric vehicle conceived as such since its inception. A crossover sedan that will give a lot to talk about.
We have tested this car:
Test Kia EV6 GT Line 77 kWh and 229 CV rear propulsionTrue is that KIA had ever had 100% electric vehicles, as is the case with the KIA e-Soul. However, the e-Soul is only a variant of the KIA Soul, Unlike EV6 that has been conceived from the beginning of its development as a battery-powered car. Thanks to this, it presents unique advantages and conditions that in the future will make it a reference model within the segment.
The KIA EV6 is a completely new model. Presented in the second quarter of 2021, and could be crossed out as the twin brother of the Hyundai IONIQ 5. The Korean conglomerate has shared the development between its two models, although it has given each of them a different touch. Within the range there is also the EV6 GT, which announces the highest performance of the model.
Technical characteristics of the KIA EV6
Vehicle development involves the development of new technologies and components. The main one is the structure, or the platform on which the rest of the compounds rest. The KIA EV6 uses the e-GMP platform of the Hyundai group, developed expressly for 100% electric vehicles. It is the second to offer it, because as we have already said, the first was its twin brother the IONIQ 5.
For the specific case that concerns us, the dimensions of the EV6 lock it in the D segment. Despite what it may seem in images, its size is quite generous: 4,68 meters long, 1,88 meters wide and 1,55 meters high. To these external dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,9 meters. A battle that allows you to offer a generous cabin for a maximum of five passengers.
Three of them are located in a rear row where there are no space problems, although the central occupant has the inconvenience of traveling in a smaller and narrower seat. As far as load capacity is concerned, the KIA EV6 offers a trunk with 572 liters of minimum volume, a figure that is reduced to 540 liters for variants that offer four-wheel drive.
Mechanical range and gearboxes of the KIA EV6
As we have already mentioned, the EV6 was born with the purpose of being an exclusively electric vehicle. That means that its mechanical range is absent from thermal versions. At the moment two sets of batteries have been announced, and the entire mechanical range will rotate on them. The access one offers a capacity of 58 kWh, while the superior one increases the capacity to 77,4 kWh. The recharging capacity is up to 350 kW.
The range starts with EV6 with 58 kWh battery, 170 horsepower, 350 Nm of torque, rear-wheel drive and 400 kilometers of approved autonomy. Followed by the unit with 77,4 kWh battery, 228 horsepower, 350 Nm of torque, rear-wheel drive and 475 kilometers of approved autonomy. From there the all-wheel drive versions with double motor (one on each axis) come into play. The first is the EV6 with 58 kWh battery, 235 horsepower and 605 Nm of torque.
The most powerful versions are signed with the largest battery, the 77,4 kWh. In a first step it offers 325 horses, 605 Nm of torque and all-wheel drive. Above him is the KIA EV6 GT. It features two electric motors that generate a maximum power of 585 horsepower with a torque of up to 740 Nm.. The homologated electric autonomy has not yet been announced, but it has some features that lead it to offer a top speed of 260 km/h with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,5 seconds.
Equipment of the KIA EV6
Little by little, Korean brands have been increasing the quality of their products. In just a couple of decades they have gone from offering low-cost vehicles to models as well presented as the KIA EV6. Its cabin offers good quality, both in finishes and materials. Nor is the advanced technology that everyone expects from an electric vehicle missing.
As is customary in the Korean company, the EV6 structures its equipment based on different levels or finishes, highlighting the generous display offered from its most basic version. On a scale from least to most equipped we find the Smart Edition, Air, Plus Edition, GT-Line and GT versions., the latter being the most different of all by offering a particular appearance and finishes in line with its greater mechanical performance.
As far as equipment is concerned, the KIA EV6 is called to be the flagship of the house, even above other models such as the KIA Sorrento. The list is long, and it is worth highlighting elements such as: full LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, double digital panel on the dashboard with 12,3-inch screens, wireless connectivity, induction charging, browser, connected services, electric and heated front seats, and a wide deployment of driving assistants and safety elements.

Rivals of the KIA EV6
With the passing of the months, more and more electrics are coming to the market. We are experiencing a time of change, and the portfolio is being filled with new products that are increasingly interesting and real for the general public. The KIA EV6 does not have many rivals around it, although in the future it will. Today we can name some such as: Ford Mustang Mach-e, skoda enyaq, Lynk & Co 01, Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Model Y, Jaguar I-Pace, BMW iX3, Audi Q4 etron y Polestar 2. All of them are similar in size and features, although in some cases the price is much higher than that offered by the Korean.
