El Geneva Motor Show It should be held next week. However, due to the famous and well-known coronavirus, is going to be canceled. The Swiss government has banned public and private gatherings with more than 1.000 people until at least March 15. So, the Geneva Motor Show will not be held next week.
Automotive brands, media and industry partners we were afraid this might happen. Fears of the coronavirus are very high, beyond the severity of the disease itself. In an event in which so many thousands of people from dozens and dozens of different countries come together, it is a risk that is not worth taking.
A couple of days ago the first case of coronavirus was confirmed in Switzerland and the pressures were increasing; especially for manufacturers from Asian countries and, above all, Chinese. At that time, the organization of the event communicated that everything would depend on the country's authorities. If they saw it dangerous to celebrate it, it would be suspended. Otherwise, it would be celebrated. In the end, they are cautious and have preferred to heal themselves banning gatherings of more than 1.000 people.
We do not know what will happen with the event, although the most logical thing would be to postpone it for a few months. The main problem is not us, the media, but the brands themselves. What will they do with all the planned novelties? Personally, I don't think they'll keep the information for several months, since that would also mean delaying the launches and postponing all the plans.
Be that as it may, we are waiting for confirmations and details from the organization. As a curiosity, from March 25 to 29, the Geneva Inventions Exhibition was scheduled to be held, which has already been confirmed to be held in September.
