When I tried the Audi RS3 Sedan a few months ago it seemed to me the best model of Audi Sport he had driven so far, staying even slightly above the Audi TT RS. Because it is not only fast, but also fun to drive. Now, the signature of the four rings presents a new version called Audi RS3 Performance Edition with improved performance.
It is a series limited to only 300 units, available with both Sportback and Sedan bodies; although in Spain it will be marketed exclusively with bodywork Sportback. It arrives with a visual differentiation and, what is more important, an improvement in its technical part that makes it the fastest compact ever Audi.
The fastest compact Audi ever
On a mechanical level, which is the main thing in this type of car, it increases its power to become the fastest and most powerful Audi RS 3 of those who have existed. At least serial. And it is that the 2.5-liter five-cylinder now delivers 407 hp between 5.700 and 7.000 rpm, improving the torque curve with 500 Nm between 2.250 and 5.750 laps. This is achieved thanks to a higher pressure in the turbo blowing.
Thus, the Audi RS 3 Performance Edition is capable of reaching 300 km / h, being one of the first cars in its segment to reach such a figure, improving the top speed of the RS 10 by 3 km/h with the RS Dynamic package. Secondly, covers 0 to 100 in 3,8 seconds, the same time that the “conventional” version needs.
The control of butterflies Escape it has been modified for the RS 3 performance edition. In dynamic, RS performance and RS torque rear driving modes the throttles open wider when the car is stationary, making the sound of the exhaust even more present and showing the true character of the car.
On the other hand, and now going to the chassis, the RS 3 Performance Edition adds RS sport suspension with adaptive suspension as standard. Of course, this exclusive variant also incorporates the differential RS Torque Splitter that we liked so much in the conventional RS 3. In addition, high-performance tires are added as standard for this car. semi-slick Pirelli P Zero “Trofeo R” in dimensions 265/35 for the front axle and 245/35 at the rear.
Looking for exclusivity with very specific details
On an aesthetic level we will have to look at specific details. It comes with race-inspired design rims and the RS sports exhaust with black trims, the Audi rings and the RS 3 badging at the front and rear are also black, in keeping with the Color Daytona Gray available for the RS 3 Performance Edition in the Spanish market.
A curious detail is that the front lights they do not draw the inscription RS 3 when opening the vehicle, but “300”, referring to the number of units and the maximum speed. When we close the car, “RS 3” does appear on the headlight, while the checkered flag is drawn while driving.
For its part, in the passenger compartment it comes with standard bucket seats, using contrasting blue honeycomb seams in the central area of the same. The upholstery is Dinamica microfiber combined with Nappa leather on the sides. The seat belts also go in color azul, visible tonality in other points such as the seams of the steering wheel and armrests.
The first units will arrive in 2023, but we still don't know the price
Finally, still prices unknown but we do know that the commercialization will begin before the end of the year, estimating the arrival of the first units for principles of 2023. Logically it will not be a cheap or easy car to get, since there are 300 units for everyone.
