MICHELIN Primacy 4+ test, benchmark and balance (with video)

Test Michelin Primacy 4+

Are all wheels the same? If they are black and circular, what is the difference? Today we are going to do a tire test. Specifically of these new MICHELIN Primacy 4+ that we assembled a few weeks ago to thoroughly evaluate them.

As you all know, MICHELIN It is the reference brand worldwide in terms of tires. Both for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, heavy vehicles and even the largest construction trucks in the world, with wheels weighing close to 5 tons. Of course, also for the fastest cars on the planet.

But back to the important thing, we are going to focus on the product that we are examining today. First of all and to put you in situation, the Primacy range is the mainstay of Michelin on all car tires for summer. They adapt very well to conventional passenger cars and SUVs, both for everyday use in and around the city, and for long trips.

How is the new MICHELIN Primacy 4+

This Primacy 4+, which has been launched in 2022, is a clear evolution of the primacy 4. Its visual design practically does not change compared to the predecessor model except for the “+” marking on the profile.

Yes, the drawing is almost identical, however, the main novelties are inside, in its composition. And it is that almost all tires could look alike on the outside, right? Because they are black and circular, but inside is where the inverted technology is. And believe me, Michelin has a bit of experience in this.

Logically it works perfectly in the dry, we'll talk about it later, but we can highlight other benefits of this update, such as safety in the wet, a increased durability and a guarantee of good operation from the first kilometer to the last.

Regarding the improvement of wet grip, thanks to a tread formed by two layers of superimposed rubbers with different rigidity is obtained. This generates a kind of self-regeneration as the tire wears down, thus guaranteeing its great effectiveness on wet asphalt.

On the other hand, the casing has been revised to allow a more homogeneous tread, so that both in acceleration and braking, as well as in curves, the contact surface is more uniform. This not only guarantees a better grip and safety, but also a regular wear of the tire and, therefore, greater durability.

Logically, it also benefits the ecology, since we extend the useful life of the product without compromising its performance. We will save the occasional set of wheels, helping our economy and polluting less. Namely, we take advantage of it for a longer time and with great performance from the moment we assemble them in the workshop until we replace them. Yet another proof that Michelin cares about sustainability.

Yes now, let's try it with this Seat Leon. We have mounted some MICHELIN Primacy 4+ in size 225/45 for 17-inch wheels. The marking it carries is the letter C for fuel economy, A for grip in the wet and B for noise with 69 db. By the way, this tire is available in more than 100 references different and for rims that go from 16 to 21 inches. We get going and I'll tell you my impressions.

Michelin Primacy 4+ Test

Well, as I said, I have been testing these new Primacy 4+ for several weeks now. In fact, I have been able to test them in all kinds of circumstances, because I have gone on vacation to the north with them, catching several days of rain, and of course also on short trips around the city, medium-distance trips on the motorway, secondary roads and, of course, the odd mountain pass Good rhythm.

And it is that this Primacy is a perfect summer tire for everything. On the motorway it didn't seem noisy to me and it also shows great precision and helps the car to center itself, improving driving comfort, which in turn contributes to less driver fatigue.

Of course, it is a compound that would allow you to drive well above the Spanish speed limits. But not only that, but it makes it easy for you when it comes to driving. You can go at a happy pace on a twisty road that does not make any strangers. They are very noble, neutral and predictable in all their reactions.

On those winding roads with rainlogically you can't go at the same pace as in the dry, but they give you a lot of confidence. I've done several hard braking tests, both straight ahead and with a little bit of steering and the answer has always been very sure.

According to some external tests carried out by specialized consultants such as TÜV SÜD and DEKRA, the MICHELIN Primacy 4+ is more effective than its main rivals, from well-known brands, in aquaplaning, in wet emergency braking with both new and worn tires up to the legal limit of 1,6 mm, as well as in durability.

And little more to add. In conclusion the MICHELIN Primacy 4+ It provides slight improvements over the previous one to continue being the reference summer tire.

Good for everyday use in the car, good for the road, comfortable for long trips, durable and with great safety in the wet. An ideal tire for an all-in-one car such as this Seat León, a Nissan Qashqai or a Ford Fiesta to give just three examples out of a thousand possible.
