El Seat Leon It is one of the benchmark compacts on the market, having dominated the C segment category for several years and also the general list in Spain. Now, the brand It has made some changes in its equipment levels and also in its mechanical offer. Is it availabe from 26.090 euros without discounts.
To know these new products, we have moved to Barcelona and, by the way, we have tested the version that is now at the top of the gasoline range, the 1.5 TSI 130 hp. We have driven it on the Sportstourer estate body and with the sportiest finish, the FR. Can you come with us?
Before talking about the technical part and driving impressions, it is important to mention a couple of aspects. The Seat León arrived on the market in 2019 and, since then, there have been more than 2,5 million units among its four generations. To this we must add that it is a car designed, developed and manufactured in Martorell, something important for the country's industry.
We are not going to do an in-depth review because we have already tested the fourth-generation Seat León on many occasions and with various engines, therefore we will save sections such as design, habitability or the trunk, which you can consult without problems in the in-depth testing of 5 doors and the relative sportstourer.

What changes and novelties do we find?
Focusing on the novelties, it stands out above all that the compact has eliminated the 150 CV gasoline version, which is now offered in the Cupra range, leaving the new 1.5 TSI with 130 hp as the top of the range with this fuel. Reference and Xcellence finishes are also removed.
And it is that Seat has updated the range of its compact, both for the 5-door body and for the SportsTourer estate. Now only the Style and FR finishes are available, which were accounting for 85% of customer demand. To complete them and better adapt them to the tastes, needs and interests of each client, different optional packages.
Regarding the engines, the range is also reduced but it still has a very reasonable offer. There are diesel, gasoline, mild hybrid, PHEV and even CNG variants, so we can receive the C, Eco or Zero emissions label from the DGT. Let me tell you:
En gasoline the 1.0 TSI of 3 cylinders with 110 CV is offered and this 1.5 of 130. The option microhybrid It is the 1.0 CV 110 eTSI with the Eco label and always linked to the DSG change. if we want a plug-in hybrid we also have it, the 1.4 e-Hybrid with 204 CV and Zero Emissions label. that we want a dieselWell, we have the 2.0 TDI block available with 115 and 150 CV. Lastly, the option Gas Natural, the 1.5 TGI with 130 CV and also with an Eco sticker.
At the wheel of the Seat León 1.5 TSI 130 Sportstourer FR
We start with the part technique. This cubic block has 1.498 cc, has 4 cylinders and has 16 valves. Of course, it is turbocharged. develop 130 CV between 5.000 and 6.000 rpm, as well as 200 Nm of torque between 1.400 and 4.000 turns. It does 0 to 100 in 9,4 seconds, has a top speed of 208 km/h and its approved consumption is 5,4 liters per 100. The only catch is that only offered with manual transmission.
We already know this fourth generation of the Seat León very well, as we have tested it on several occasions with different mechanics. We have always had a good taste in our mouths because we think a very round car, which does everything or practically everything very well. From my point of view, the only notable bug in this car is the multimedia screen with all touch functions, including the unintuitive climate control.
But otherwise, we talk about a reference of the C segment. It has a youthful design, the passenger compartment and the trunk offer enough space for four adults to travel comfortably, it offers a quite precise driving feel and it is also a comfortable car. Then you can carry equipment with the latest in technology and safety and at the level of engines it offers very reasonable options.
The 1.5 TSI 130, the sensible option for price, performance and benefits
So, let's focus on the engine. Is it enough or does it fall short? Without a doubt, this engine offers more than enough solvency for normal driving, both for walking the streets and making daily tours as well as for traveling with the family.
If we practice a sporty driving Very often, that's where we run out of alternatives within Seat. We would have to make the leap to the Cupra León which now does have the 150 CV eTSI engine and the 2.0 CV 190 TSI. In this way, the company differentiates and draws different strategies. Who wants normal benefits, the Seat León. Who wants a little more differentiation and more performance, has to go to Cupra.
This has been a few hours presentation and we didn't have a lot of time to fully test it, but if you tell me to stick with some of this mechanic, what I have perceived best is the finesse, the refinement. It's a sweet, smooth engine throughout the revs, more even than the 150 eTSI in my opinion. I have not been able to measure consumption, but I already tried this mechanism a few months ago in a Golf and they were very, very low.
