Although the most successful and best-selling model among individuals within our borders is its little brother, many will recognize the Dacia Duster as the undisputed emblem of the Romanian brand. The SUV that, as we will see throughout this test, is much more than an SUV already has 13 years of life and more than 2,4 million units sold.

The design is one of the aspects that changes significantly compared to its predecessor. Finally we found the new brand identity, with that fusion of the D and C on the grille, and full LED front lights that seem to be another extension of the grill itself. To this we must add shorter overhangs, bumpers, wheel arches and plastic moldings with more muscle and 17 or 18 inch wheels that in the 4×4 versions will be shod with tires as standard. all season.

Speaking of Duster 4 × 4, only associated with the gasoline version with microhybridization, it is worth highlighting that it has dimensions offroad even better than those of the Duster 4×2 to make the most of its off-road capabilities. And the angles of attack, ventral and departure reach 31, 24 and 36 degrees, with a ground clearance that is close to 22 cm... To give you an idea, except in the attack - which is exactly the same - , surpasses a new batch Land Cruiser in everything.

What does not change is its length, which it is still 4,34 meters. Despite this, as we tell you in the video, the use of the new platform allows the interior habitability to be considerably increased. For example, both the width available in the front seats and the legroom of the second row grow, which increases by up to 30 mm. The trunk volume also increases by 15%: from 348 liters of the bifuel Duster to 474 of the TCe microhybrid with front-wheel drive.

In addition to the greater space, from the inside we see a dashboard design that somehow evokes that of the purest 4×4. Most of the parts are plastic (in fact, it uses 20% recycled plastics, such as the exterior Starkle that protrudes next to the wheel arches), but everything has a good built feel and catches the eye. The view, however, initially goes to the 10,1-inch central touch screen that is included as standard from the intermediate finish (Expression) and that It has all types of connectivity, 360 cameras, etc. It stands out for its good graphics and good response.

In front of the driver there is another 7-inch customizable screen -also from the Expression- which serves as digital instrumentation and from which everything related to the information on board can be read in a very simple way. Of course, the versions with the basic Essential finish will have the classic clocks with hands and a smaller screen between them, a less modern but still clearer solution.

And we come to the crux of the matter: how the new Duster 2024 engine catalog. The range opens with the bifuel option (gasoline and LPG) that we already had before, with 100 HP of power and up to 1.300 km of autonomy with both tanks full. In between we find a 1.2 TCe three-cylinder with 130 HP that is associated with a 48-volt electrical network. These two, at least for the moment, can only be purchased with a six-speed manual transmission.

The automatic Duster is reserved for full hybrid o 140 hp conventional hybrid, which basically copies the structure of the Clio and Captur with a 1,6-liter, four-cylinder, 90 HP gasoline engine plus two additional electric motors. The 1,2 kWh battery allows you to travel a large part of the time in the city without wasting fuel (hence it certifies 5,1 l/100 km in the combined cycle and just over 4 l/100 km at low speed.)

As I mentioned previously, the Duster 4×4 is only available with the 130 HP engine and, although It does not have nor will it have a reducer (which would make it the cheapest pure 4×4 on the market), it is positioned as the best non-pure 4×4 on the market.
