And the world ranking of car manufacturers in 2017 is like this

Grupo Volkswagen

Humans have this condition; we love them rankings and lists to know how good or bad, big or small, we are. In the automotive sector, it is even more important to be part of one, because if a signature is not in it, something is wrong. Main car manufacturers they know it and therefore they want to occupy a good position in the one that takes place when a year ends, because thanks to it, they know what position their sales occupy in the world.

As usual, car manufacturers fight hard to occupy the top positions and for a few years the struggle has been in the hands of the Volkswagen Group and Toyota Motor Corporation. At the end of 2017, the German consortium has revalidated the first place it already achieved the previous year, with a total of 10.413.455 units marketed (among all its firms Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen and Volkswagen commercial vehicles).

The second largest car manufacturer in the world is once again Toyota with 10.163.491 units manufactured between itself, Lexus, Daihatsu and Hino, being surpassed by the first classified in 249.654 units. In third position is the surprise of the year, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance with a total of 10.117.402 units, placing itself very close to Toyota and Volkswagen.

In the rest of the positions, we see a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group (FCA) who clings tightly to his eighth position and his 4.863.291 units manufactured. Behind the Italian-American group is the reconstructed PSA Group with 4.161.389 automobiles marketed. Finally, and although it may seem surprising, there is Suzuki, which with a tenth place and 3.148.930 units, consolidates itself as the second largest independent car manufacturer in the world, only behind Honda, which occupies the sixth place in the ranking with 6.875.098 units sold.

The rest of the car manufacturers occupy more "mundane" places, although it is necessary to highlight the excellent positions they have achieved Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz) and BMW. Lastly, it is surprising that the Geely Group y Tata Motors occupy such low positions, although it is also true that their firms have not yet accumulated the specific weight that their main rivals do.

As a point, I would like to point out that despite the fact that the Grupo Volkswagen has achieved the first position before Toyota Motor Corporation, the numbers are against you. Leading the world market with nine brands is not the same as leading the world market with four, since its sales ratio per brand is significantly diluted, being lower than in the case of the Japanese group. The complete list, with positions, groups, sales, sales variation and market share worldwide is in the following table, what are you waiting for?

and there are still those who think that excellent information. Please, to the person who wrote the article (José Navarrete apparently), check the ranking again, reread what you have written and draw your own conclusions… American brands should not cause you much sympathy, you directly eliminate them from your comments but is that you also award their sales figures to other firms. Let's not say anything about the Koreans who, a few years ago, were in positions like today's Indian brands, have risen to fourth place and you don't even mention it either.

    Dear John Louis

I am very glad that you liked the article so much. Another thing is that you have understood it correctly.

    All the best
