At the dawn of the SUV fashion, the first units of each house used to arrive in the largest formats. The Listen Q7 It was, and still is, the largest SUV of the Ingolstadt firm. It was the first stone of the Q range, Audi's SUV family. Since its launch at the end of 2005 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, it has garnered tremendous success, becoming the perfect launch pad for the appearance of more siblings, such as the Listen Q5 or Listen Q3.

It wasn't until 2009 that the first generation received a facelift that Audi extended until 2015. At that time Audi launched the second of the generations taking advantage of the celebration of the Detroit Motor Show. In this second edition, the Q7 increased all its values and characteristics, being larger, more luxurious, more dynamic, more technological and more efficient.

As the calendar marks, the year 2019 is set as the release date for the restyling of the second commercial cycle of the second generation of the Audi Q7. At the beginning of 2024 the model will be updated again. Those from Ingolstadt take advantage of the slight aesthetic wash to make much more profound modifications than they may initially seem. New interior, greater technology, more quality and also cutting-edge solutions in terms of mobility.

Technical characteristics of the Audi Q7

Q7 front

The Audi Q7 sits on the largest version of the Volkswagen Group's MLB Evo platform.. This scalar architecture is used in a wide variety of models, from the Audi A8 until Volkswagen Touareg and even the Bentley Bentayga. They all have the same chassis, but each brand adjusts it in a specific way depending on their tastes and needs.

In the case of the Q7, it leaves us with exterior measurements of 5.06 meters of lake, 1,97 meters wide and 1,74 meters high. We are not talking about a small model, nor light. On the scale the Q7 is heavy. At best it returns a 2.165 kg weight. A figure that can be shot up to 2.535 kilograms if we talk about the versions with plug-in hybrid technology.

To the external measures we must add a 2,99 meter wheelbase. This battle allows them to have a cabin where they can travel up to a maximum of seven passengers, two of them in two seats hidden under the floor of the trunk. In terms of cargo volume, the figures vary depending on the number of seats. Starting from the 770 liters of minimum capacity for the seven-seater versions, the 865 liters for the five-passenger units, and the 650 liters in the case of the TFSIe.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of Audi Q7

Listen Q7

It should be recognized that the mechanical range of the Audi Q7 is not the most extensive in the fleet. As it is a model of the highest category, it reserves the most exclusive mechanics. All units arrive standard with a quattro all-wheel drive system which gives it great off-road capabilities. On top of that, all the mechanics are attached to one Tiptronic automatic transmission eight-speed torque converter type.

The range is made up of two diesel versions, a gasoline unit and two plug-in hybrid units. The diesel range starts with the 7 horsepower Q45 231 TDI. A block of six cylinders in V and three liters that also uses the Q7 50 TDI 286 horsepower. The most powerful of the family is the SQ7TFSI with a four-liter V8 engine that offers 507 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque.

The most efficient models are plug-in hybrids called TFSIe. Both have a gasoline engine scheme with an electric motor and a battery with a net capacity of 22 kWh. There are two units: the Q7 55 TFSIe with 394 hp and 84 kilometers of autonomy, and the Q7 60 TFSIe 489 horsepower and 84 kilometers of autonomy. Both units offer alternating current charging systems at a maximum power of 7,4 kW.

Equipment of the Audi Q7

Audi Q7 interior

One of the fields where the Audi Q7 has changed the most on the occasion of its 2019 restyling is inside. The great SUV of the house has always had an excellent quality of finishes, just as its flagship recognition deserves. In 2019 improvements are introduced in this aspect, but above all in design and technology. The interior of the 7 Q2019 looks like it's from a completely new model, fitting in with Audi's new design philosophy.

As a good flagship model, the Q7 has the most advanced technology that Audi has today on the market. The range is structured in three levels: Advance, S Line and Black Line Edition. At each step the Q7 wins in equipment and customization while changing its appearance, going from a sober style to a more sporty one. Special mention deserves the sports unit of the house, the SQ7, which has particular and exclusive elements.

Focusing more on the equipment, the list of elements is practically endless. Part of the options focus on improving driving comfort, like an adaptive air suspension. Another part is dedicated to improve life on board and make it easier. LED matrix headlights, night vision camera, parking cameras, HUD, state-of-the-art multimedia system, digital instrument panel, sunroof, and much more. Of course, it also has the most equipped set of driving assistants and safety elements.

The Audi Q7 according to Euro NCAP

Taking advantage of the launch of the second generation of the Q7, Euro NCAP put the safety of the large SUV to the test. To this day, that assessment is still valid as there has been no change in structure in its 2019 restyling. That means that the Audi Q7 is listed as a five-star safety car. Outstanding have been the results obtained in the protection of adult and child passengers with ratings of 94 and 88 out of 100 respectively. These assessments remain valid after the 2024 update as there are no changes to the structure of the vehicle.

The Audi Q7 of Km 0 and second hand

Although it is not a cheap model, it is popular. Since its first generation, the Q7 has garnered excellent sales figures. If we add to this the fact that they have been on the market since 2006, we find second-hand and second-hand channels well stocked with units. Most of them correspond to first generation models with a low depreciation percentage despite the fact that some units have high mileage.

The cheapest units start at prices close to 7.500 euros, although its most common price is around 12.000 euros. In the Km 0 market we find a much more limited offer. Prices are high given the premium nature and size of the model. Prices start at figures close to 95.000 euros, without offers or promotions.

Rivals of the Audi Q7

Audi Q7 rear

Although we are not talking about the most popular segment of the market, the Q7 niche is one of the most important because it represents the flagships of each house. This reason forces him to compete with models of important background and renown. BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, Volvo XC90, Maserati Levante y Range Rover, among others. On a higher level of quality and performance we could also add to the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne and Lamborghini Governance, all three supported on the same platform of the German.
