The Renault Twizy is the two-seater microurban of the French firm Renault. It is a fully electric vehicle intended for use in the city. Its distribution is 1+1.

Produced since 2011 in Spain, in the plant that Renault owns in Valladolid, the Twizy was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009 as a prototype under the name ZE

Technical characteristics of the Renault Twizy

Its dimensions are 2,33 meters long, 1,23 meters wide and 1,45 meters high, with a wheelbase of 1,68 meters. These very low levels give it great agility for transporting two people in the city without the need to resort to other ecological alternatives such as carsharing.

The Twizy does not have a trunk itself, but instead has a reserved space behind the rear seat with a capacity of 31 litres. Secondly, his weight is only 473 kilograms.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Renault Twizy

The mechanical supply of the Renault Twizy is limited to two different electric motors. The first, called 45, is a propellant that offers 5 horsepower, and the second, called 80, which is capable of developing 11 horsepower.

Both engines are coupled to a reduction gearbox with one forward and one reverse gear. Regarding autonomy, the Twizy 45 has a range of 100 kilometers, while the Twizy 80 is capable of reaching 90 kilometers on a single charge.

On the other hand, the Renault Twizy is rear wheel drive and it does not have power steering, as well as neither ABS nor ESP.

Equipment of the Renault Twizy

The Renault Twizy has a single equipment for the two engines that the electric micro-urban has. Unlike most models on the market, the Twizy is not characterized by having elements that improve comfort.

Account, as standard, with elements such as airbag, emergency parking brake or seat belts, but unlike most vehicles, it has neither heating nor air conditioning, as well as neither ABS nor ESP.

Because the Twizy is specially designed for use in the city, its safety is not as high as that of other vehicles that can travel at higher speeds.

The Renault Twizy achieved in the European safety tests for the car a 2 star rating out of 5. The French microurban, on the other hand, offers protection for the adult occupant of only 39%, a very low figure compared to other models.

Rivals of the Renault Twizy

The Twizy is undoubtedly a rare bird in the car market. It is a vehicle exclusively intended for city use and being fully electric, it could have rivals like the smart EQ fortwo or Volkswagen e Up!, but both models are much more expensive than the French urban.

Renault Twizy prices

By having only two versions differentiated by their engine, the Twizy only has two prices available when buying the vehicle. The cheapest corresponds to the 45 kWh motor with a price of $12.105, while the 80 kWh drive costs $8.065.

These prices will vary when purchasing the vehicle, since we will have two options. We can rent the battery, which will not involve an initial cost, or buy it, which will increase the price by about 4.000 euros. The rental of a battery with which to perform a mileage of 7.500 kilometers for 36 months would be 52 euros/month.
