In the world there are many compact for sale. Different models and different formats that try to conquer one of the most important segments of the industry. The Subaru XV It is one of the representatives of the Japanese house in such a vital business, although it offers it with a different point of view thanks to its excellent capabilities outside the hard and cold asphalt.

The XV has always been considered a variation of the Subaru Impreza thanks to its almost SUV status. Nevertheless, In 2012, the Japanese brand decided to separate it from the traditional compact and created a new model as such., being one of the smallest models of the house, below the Subaru Forester and the Subaru Outback. A first generation that manages to conquer markets such as the American, being little visible in Europe despite its good conditions.

Subaru He does not give up his efforts and in 2017 he launches a second generation. A more advanced and better presented model, but with the same features as its predecessor. In 2021 it receives a new restyling. A small update that focuses mainly on adding more efficient mechanical variants, thus creating the first hybrid of the house under the umbrella of Hybrid technology.

Technical characteristics of the Subaru XV

Subaru XV MY2022

In recent years Subaru has made efforts to improve the characteristics of its models and to reduce the manufacturing process. Much of that effort has been focused on developing a modular and shared platform for the entire range, called SGP (Subaru Global Platform). The Subaru XV had the honor of debuting it, and today all models use it except the small Subaru BRZ.

Due to its measurements, the XV is pigeonholed within the compact segment (segment C). Externally it shows the following measurements: 4,46 meters long, 1,8 meters wide and 1,59 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,66 meters. A sufficient battle that allows you to homologate an interior space for a maximum of five passengers.

Regarding load capacity, the Subaru XV offers a trunk volume of at least 385 liters (340 for the hybrid), and a maximum of 1.193 liters. Being considered a good off-road vehicle, the off-road dimensions prove it. 18-degree entry angle, 29-degree departure angle and 21,9-degree breakover angle, adding up to 22 centimeters of ground clearance.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Subaru XV

Over the years the Subaru XV has been shedding some mechanical options. A necessary goodbye given the latest and demanding European emissions regulations. Currently, the mechanical range is made up of two versions, the last of which was released in the 2021 commercial update. It is a conventional hybrid set that receives the ECO label from the DGT.

The access version consists of a four-cylinder electronic injection gasoline engine with 1.600 cubic centimeters. It develops a power of 114 horsepower and a torque of 150 Nm at 3.600 revolutions. Its performance is not outstanding, but its capacity as an off-roader is thanks to a four-wheel drive scheme managed by an automatic transmission with continuous variator.

The hybrid is mainly made up of a naturally aspirated four-cylinder, two-liter engine in boxer position configuration. A classic setup within Subaru. It has a displacement of 1.995 cubic centimeters, develops 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 194 Nm at 4.000 revolutions. An electric motor with 16,7 horsepower and 66 Nm of torque is attached to it.

Subaru XV Equipment

Subaru XV Interior

From doors inside the Subaru XV sports a very well presented interior, something that has already been common in all models of the house. This fact allows Subaru to be considered one of the best general brands in the European market. Pleasant-touch surfaces and careful manufacturing generate a feeling of high perceived quality, even more so than some rival premium models.

After the 2021 update, the XV does not change its interior line almost anything. As usual, Subaru divides the equipment into different levels. Steps that allow having more or less technology. From smallest to largest we find: Sport, Sport Plus and Executive Plus. The differences lie in the equipment that each of them can include, since at the level of design or finishes there is no variation.

As for equipment, the XV sports many elements of the latest generation that are very attractive. It is worth highlighting some such as: LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, sunroof, connectivity for mobile devices, multimedia system with 8-inch panel, rear camera and all the deployment of security technology collected by the EyeSight system, one of the best in the industry.

The Subaru XV according to Euro NCAP

In Japan, the XV is considered one of the safest cars on the market. In Europe he was subjected to the harsh Euro NCAP safety tests in 2017, obtaining five stars. A commitment to safety that is demonstrated by seeing the results: 9,4 in adult passenger protection, 8,9 in child passenger protection, 8,4 in pedestrian vulnerability and 6,8 in driver assistant performance. These values are still valid today as there has been no change in the structure of the vehicle.

The Subaru XV of Km 0 and second hand

It is true that the history of the Subaru XV is not especially long. Barely 10 years on the market have not been a commercial success for it, although it is the best-selling model of the house. Despite this, its sales figures have not been bad, and it has managed to carve out a well-deserved reputation for durability, good behavior and, above all, aptitude for the field. In the alternative sales channels it shows a percentage of depreciation around 30%, a figure slightly higher than the average of its segment.

If we take a look at the used and second-hand market, we see how the cheapest units correspond to the first generation (2011 – 2017). Prices are offered from amounts close to 9.000 euros for models with more than 150 thousand accumulated kilometers. The Km 0 market is practically nil. Prices hardly make a big difference to newer models, and dealers don't stock up. They are advertised from 26.500 euros.

Subaru XV rivals

When talking about the competition of the XV, it must be taken into account that it is not an easy model to catalog. It can be considered as an elevated compact or a saloon-shaped crossover. Obviously, due to its characteristics, it is closer to being an SUV than a compact. The most direct rivals that we can consider are: SEAT Ateca, Nissan Qashqai, Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan, Jeep Renegade, Peugeot 3008 or Skoda Karoq, among others. An amalgam of models where the Japanese stands out for its excellent behavior off the asphalt and for the careful treatment of the interior finishes.
