A new era is coming for Volkswagen. Since the beginning of their history, those from Wolfsburg have in their ranks models that have marked an era or that have opened paths hitherto explored. It is not unreasonable to say that the Volkswagen ID.3 is the next model that arrives to revolutionize the market. The first 100% electric of the German brand, a car that promises to be not only a benchmark in the segment but also a model of change in the house.

El Volkswagen Golf With its electric versions, it has been Volkswagen's most commercial battery-powered model to date. Nevertheless the ID.3 replaces the e-Golf to occupy the position of the firm's electric compact. The first of a series of models that arrive under the ID umbrella, where more models will be added in the future. The ID.3 is slightly renewed at the beginning of 2023 to introduce more quality and more equipment with minimal aesthetic retouching.

Technical characteristics of the Volkswagen ID.3

First and foremost is the 100% electric concept of the ID.3. Unlike other models, this one was born from the beginning as pure electric, without thermal versions or hybrid or plug-in hybrid solutions. Thanks to that launches a completely new platform called MEB. Said scalar and modular structure is adapted to multiple bodies such as the Volkswagen ID.4, Volkswagen ID.5 y Volkswagen ID. buzz.

Due to its measurements, the Volkswagen ID.3 is perfectly located in one of the most popular segments at European level, the C segment. 4,26 meters long, 1,8 meters wide and 1,55 meters high. Its unconventional compact appearance seeks two objectives. The first is to favor aerodynamic flow. The second is to maximize interior space. Thanks to a well-used wheelbase of 2,76 meters, up to five passengers can travel comfortably.

Not only is good interior space allowed, the design has also been adapted to improve cargo capabilities. It can be said that the Volkswagen ID.3 is one of the best compacts in this regard. It has a minimum volume of 385 liters, something that positions it at the height of other rivals such as its brother the Golf, the Renault Mégane or SEAT Leon.

Volkswagen ID.3 motors and batteries

The ID.3 is the first product of a new era at Volkswagen. With its launch, the brand enters completely into the electric segment. The compact only offers electric systems where the range revolves around different battery sizes. Lithium-ion batteries that always deliver power to the rear axle with the management of an automatic gearbox. Later, a sports version with a dual motor and almost 300 horsepower called GTX will arrive. As for the batteries there are two different levels: 58 and 77 kWh of capacity.

After the review at the beginning of 2023, the ID.3 limits its range to three mechanical versions. Those of access with a single engine on the front axle of 204 horsepower that can be combined with the two battery sizes. Thanks to that autonomies are approved between 435 and 574 kilometers depending on the version. The charging power reaches 170 kW in direct current and up to 11 kW in alternating current. At maximum performance, it is capable of recovering from 0 to 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes.

The most powerful models in the family come accompanied by the GTX acronym (sports acronym for the electric range) and two different versions. He ID.3 GTX has a single engine with 286 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque associated with a 79 kWh capacity lithium battery that allows it to certify 600 kilometers of autonomy. The most beneficial is the ID.3 GTX Performance dual motor. Reaches 326 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5,6 seconds and its 79 kWh battery allows it to certify 600 kilometers of official autonomy (WLTP cycle).

Equipment of the Volkswagen ID.3

The fact of moving to electric mobility should not, under any circumstances, mean losing comfort or equipment on board. In fact, the electric ones achieve the opposite thanks to the fact that they attract a more technological and capable public, economically speaking. For that reason the Volkswagen ID.3 can be classified as one of the most equipped compact in the segment. It has particular solutions for him, but also another series of options that we are used to seeing inside the house.

premiering denominations, The range of finishes of the ID.3 is structured, for now, in different levels that coincide with the mechanical versions: Pro and Pro S. To these we must add the GTX sports units with personalized finishes. The differences between the finishes focus mainly on the mechanical and technological aspects, although there are also particular elements for the more equipped and higher-range versions.

As far as equipment is concerned, the Volkswagen ID.3 offers a wide catalog of elements of the latest generation. The list highlights details such as: LED matrix headlights, keyless entry and start, sunroof, 5,3-inch digital instrumentation, multimedia system with 12-inch touch screen, wireless connectivity for mobile devices, parking cameras and a large deployment of driving assistants with level 2 autonomous driving.

Shortly after its commercial launch, the Volkswagen ID.3 undergoes Euro NCAP safety tests in which it receives the highest possible score; five stars. The results by groups are as follows: 87 out of 100 in adult passenger protection, 89 out of 100 in child passenger protection, 71 out of 100 in pedestrian vulnerability and 88 out of 100 in behavior of driving assistants and ADAS teams. The Volkswagen ID.3 of Km 0 and second hand

Although the ID.3 has been on the market for a short time, much of it affected by supply problems in the assembly line, sales show good progress. Like any Volkswagen product, it offers a lower-than-average depreciation, added to the revaluation that the electric ones have. Thanks to this we speak of a loss percentage of 22%, one of the best figures in the category.

If we take a look at the used and second-hand market, we see the first units go on sale with a mileage of no more than 40.000 kilometers. Prices start from amounts close to 36.000 euros. The majority offer focuses on the 204-horsepower version with 420 kilometers of approved autonomy. The Km 0 market is non-existent due to a demand that far exceeds the demand.

Volkswagen ID.3 rivals

Every day we witness the launch of a new electric model. The EV market is growing exponentially in the face of new and increasing demand. However for the moment There are not many 100% electric compact models that we find for sale. That makes the Volkswagen ID.3 have few clear rivals at the moment. On the one hand, the most direct enemy is the Nissan LEAF, in addition to him we can name others such as Renault ZOE or Citroen ë-C4, both similar in terms of compact electrics.
