About 35.000 Toyota Proace City will be produced annually in Vigo

El Toyota Proace City is a small van that will soon arrive on the market, a light commercial vehicle, the so-called LCV. This model is the result of collaboration between Toyota and PSA. You already know that these two manufacturers have relationships in several segments, which allows them to reduce costs and thus expand their product offering.

The fact is that the new commercial of the Japanese company is good news for the Spanish automobile sector. And it is that the Toyota Proace City will be produced in the Galician factory of PSA, in Vigo. In addition, it will not only have traditional thermal engines, but in 2021 a BEV variant will also be available, that is, 100% electric.

A pre-production unit manufactured at the Vigo plant has recently been presented, shown to the president of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

Toyota plans to assemble about 35.000 units of this new Proace City each year, which will be distributed throughout the different European markets. As an interesting fact, approximately 10% of all production will remain in the Spanish market.

It should be noted that the first units (with traditional motorization) will arrive at dealers during the next year 2020, landing a year later the aforementioned electric variant.

In the case of Toyota Proace City with thermal engine, it will be available in two different bodies. The brand has not yet specified many details, but it has mentioned that the short body will have a length of 4,4 meters, while the long version will enjoy about 30 centimeters more. One of them has a more professional approach, while the other will have an ideal configuration for passengers.

The main rivals they will be their first cousins ​​from PSA, that is, the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Rifter and Opel Combo Life; but also the Dacia Dokker, Renault Kangoo, Volkswagen Caddy or Ford Tourneo Connect. We will see if Toyota's light van is able to gain a foothold in this commercial segment.
