A week ago we launched the Mercedes EQE43 AMG test, today we show you how it is to make a journey of more than 400 kilometers in it. We will talk about the consumption that we have obtained throughout the journey and also about the stop that we had to make to charge the battery. Let's remember that this EQE is not the most efficient model within the range, so its consumption is somewhat high.
To remember a little, the Mercedes EQE 43 AMG It has a power of 476 CV and 858 Nm of torque. and is fed by a 90,6 kWh battery net capacity. Its approved autonomy according to the WLTP cycle is 531 km, although yes, in combined use, which is not the case in this test since 95% of the journey is on the highway at speeds of 120 km/h.
Start of the trip with 87% battery
Are 8:30 in the morning and we start the trip with 87% battery, 275 km of remaining autonomy according to the on-board computer of this EQE43 AMG. We put our final destination, Alcobendas in Madrid, in the navigation system, and it only tells us where we have to stop to charge the battery since we do not have enough autonomy to reach our final destination.
According to the navigation the Ionity charger in Valdepeñas, which is located practically halfway, is the perfect point to make a stop of 18 minutes and continue with the trip. I will not do that since it tells me that I will arrive in Madrid with only 10% autonomy and no, I do not like to take risks, so I will prefer to make a slightly longer stop to arrive safely and without anxiety at my final destination .
First kilometers traveled, low consumption for the moment but with negative aspects against us
After doing the first kilometers, the on-board computer indicates an average consumption of 22 kWh/100 km, a very low figure for this Mercedes EQE43 AMG. The reality is that on our journey, at least 50% of the route will have positive slopes, that is, rises, so the best before date until we make the stop to load the vehicle will be very high.
This will change later since The remaining 50% of the route will be mostly flat and then, arriving in Madrid, we will go slower because we have lower speed limits and in addition to a higher density of traffic that will always cause us to reduce speed.
It's time to stop to recharge the Mercedes EQE43 AMG at the Ionity charger in Valdepeñas
We arrived at the Ionity charger in Valdepeñas with a 16% battery after doing 208 kilometers. Ionity is a company that offers us a maximum charging power of 350 kW, something that we will not be able to take advantage of in the EQE43 AMG since it accepts a maximum charge of 170 kW, but there is no problem, it is still an ultra-fast charge.
At the moment, the average consumption is high as I had already planned, specifically 30,4 kWh / 100km. This is due to the constant steep slopes that we have encountered in the first half of the journey. From here, consumption will drop since the orography of the land will be flatter and will benefit us with a drop in energy expenditure.
The stop time that the on-board computer indicated was 18 minutes, with this we would have to arrive with 10% battery to Alcobendas. I don't like to arrive in such a hurry, so I have preferred to charge about 30 minutes and thus finish the trip to my destination in complete safety without going through any moments of anxiety.
Arriving in Madrid, consumption is clearly reduced
we already met just 50 kilometers from our destination and the average consumption is reflected in a reduction of 2,4 kWh every 100 km, that is, now the energy expenditure indicated by the EQE is 28 kWh at 100. We already knew that this was going to happen, the Castilla-La Mancha area is very flat and, on the other hand, the arrival in Madrid will also benefit us in this sense.
Although we already discussed it in the Mercedes EQE43 AMG test, I do not want to overlook the great quality of travel that this vehicle offers us. Mainly for the ride comfort thanks to the AirMatic air suspension and, on the other hand, its good insulation. It is a model in which it does not weigh at all to travel kilometers and kilometers, the feeling of fatigue takes time to appear.
Completion of our trip after 419 kilometers
Ya we have reached our final destination, the headquarters of Mercedes Spain located in Alcobendas, Madrid, where we will return the vehicle. After 419 kilometers that this journey has lasted, finally the average consumption has dropped to 27,1 kWh every 100 km. If we make a quick rule of 3, with this consumption we could do 334 km on a single charge.
The duration of the journey driving has been 4 hours and 4 minutes although if we add the 38 minutes of charging, finally the trip has taken us 4 hours and 42 minutes for these 419 km. All this always driving at legal speeds and doing normal driving, we have not been looking for consumption.
