The arrival of electric vehicles has opened a stage where brands fight to offer the first products. The commercial career does not include segments, although manufacturers, such as Mercedes, focus on popular segments such as SUVs or compacts. Battery-powered minivans are still rare, although more and more products such as mercedes equv. A large format family vehicle based on electric mobility.

Its launch occurs in the last third of the year 2020, being one of the first products of the newly born Mercedes EQ family, where he shares a campus with other models such as Mercedes EQA, Mercedes EQS or Mercedes EQC. As its name suggests, the EQV is considered to be the electric version of the exceptional Mercedes V Class. A large minivan derived from an industrial vehicle, the Mercedes Vito, which also offers an electric variant.

Technical characteristics of the Mercedes EQV

As we have already said, the Mercedes EQV derives directly from a combustion model. Although the German brand currently dedicates exclusive platforms for electric vehicles, the minivan rests on a platform adapted from the Class V, which limits, to a certain extent, its electrical characteristics.

Mercedes proposes two different bodies: Long and Extra Long. Although the approach is the same, the exterior measurements are not the same. In its most compressed format the EQV reaches 5,14 meters long, 1,93 meters wide and 1,9 meters high with a wheelbase of 3,2 meters. The longest body stretches to 5,37 meters long with a wheelbase of 3,43 meters.

Designed for family and professional use, the interior space offered is very generous. Three rows of seats allow access to six or seven occupants. Regarding load capacity, the Mercedes EQV offers a minimum boot volume of 1.030 liters for the Long body. The EQV Extra Long allows up to 1.410 liters of volume in its trunk.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Mercedes EQV

Since we are not talking about a high-volume model, the Mercedes EQV greatly restricts its mechanical offer. The range is limited to two electric units that revolve around the capacity of the battery. This limitation in versions is usual in the category. Rival models are committed to offering short mechanical portfolios due to the low demand for the product.

With a Shared power of 204 hp and 362 Nm of torque drawn from a single front block, the discrepancies come around the size of the battery. The access unit, called Mercedes EQV 250, offers a battery with 60 kWh of net capacity. In a higher format, the Mercedes EQV 300 has a battery increased to 90 kWh of net capacity.

Weighing more than 2.6 tons, the Mercedes EQV offers an electric range of up to 213 kilometers in cycle for the 250 model and up to 355 kilometers in the 300 model, both in the WLTP homologation cycle. For recharging, high power systems are chosen; up to 110 kW in direct current and up to 11 kW in alternating current.

Equipment of the Mercedes EQV

Do not confuse between EQV and Vito. Although both models rest on the same structure, the more familiar variant has better finishes. The interior of this electric family gives off an excellent sense of quality. Pleasant-touch materials and excellent production work elevate the feeling of comfort for all occupants.

Unlike other Mercedes models, the EQV does not enjoy a specific range of finishes. Versions revolve around different battery and body options. Despite this, different aesthetic and equipment packages are offered, with a wide collection of customizable elements; from the exterior paints to the shades of the upholstery.

As far as equipment is concerned,he number of systems offered in the Mercedes EQV is similar to those offered in conventional passenger cars. The presence of Full LED headlights, keyless entry and start, automatic side doors, three-zone climate control, browser, multimedia system with touch panel, voice control, electric seats, parking cameras and extensive security deployment stands out.

The Mercedes EQV according to Euro NCAP

By using the same platform as the V-Class (thermal engines), the Mercedes V-Class shares its security note. Thanks to it you can display the five Euro NCAP safety stars, the highest possible score. The results by sections were as follows: 93 out of 100 in protection of adult passengers, 87 out of 100 in protection of child passengers, 67 out of 100 in vulnerability to patons and 85 out of 100 in operation of assistance systems.

Rivals of the Mercedes EQV

When establishing rivals, it should be noted that few offer a point of view as exclusive as the Mercedes EQV. The electric minivan is shown to a premium market with a high price. Other manufacturers bet on general segments and more popular prices. Taking this into account, there is no clear rival for the EQV, being its main opponent the Volkswagen ID. buzz, albeit with a significantly smaller size. Other similar models are: Peugeot e-Traveler, Maxus Euniq 5 y Opel Zafira-e Life
