Leaving CES in Las Vegas on the sidelines, the first appointment of the year 2023 is the Tokyo Motor Show. And the country of the rising sun wants to set a trend with all the novelties that its local firms prepare. One of the ones that will give the most to talk about is Subaru and we already talked about it a handful of days ago. She has been working on the Impreza STi debut which, in a few months, should be available in much of the world. But there is more…

Along with the renewed compact, in a sports version, there will also be other models. The best known is the Levorg STI Spot# but there will be no lack BRZ GT300, WRX NBR Challenge 2023 or the WRX Rally Challenge 2023. But if you remember its stand will also have the presence of two prototypes, to say the least curious. It's about the Crosstrek and Rex Boost Gear. Subaru Rex Boost Gear Concept Tokyo Auto Show

For shape the Crosstrek and Rex Boost Gear the Japanese firm has created an attractive visual identity. However, both models derive from the street versions that we already know, seasoned with certain ornaments. In it crosstrek case the suspension grows back to increase ground clearance. Alloy wheels and tires are special and also launches protective moldings throughout the underbody and chassis.

There is also no missing new "Crosstrek" trim on the front or a plastic insert to protect the doors at half height. The addition of a Rhino-Rack roof rack equipped with an LED light bar and canopy gives it that extra bit of off-road “burn”. Finally, we cannot ignore the color combination that dresses its bodywork and other elements. It is a lead gray combined with cyan blue and black divided by sills or bumpers.

In second place is the Rex Boost Gear Concept. He takes as a base the model of recent birth but instead of going that far, he prefers to play with discretion. This is, part of the same aesthetic idea of the Crosstrek Boost Gear but don't "risk as much" with off road attachments. In short, it maintains the same color scheme for the bodywork in grey, cyan blue and black for the heels or footrests but forgets about the moldings and the off-road roof rack.

And up to here we can read, because We still don't know what Subaru is up to with both prototypes. The TAS will not open its doors until next January 13, so there is still time for it to publish more photos and data of both models. Perhaps we are dealing with simple design studios or who knows, they might end up reaching the market…
