Alfa Mito 1.4 Turbo Multiair 135 CV Distinctive test: blowing hard (last)

Comes from Alfa MiTo 1.4 Turbo Multiair 135 CV Distinctive test: blowing hard (II)

After carefully studying the car and enjoy your sensations It's time to settle down, do numbers and see if this is a viable option.

Consumption

As I already mentioned in the first contact with this car, the biggest novelty is in the intake system whose cams have theoretically infinite adjustment possibilities whatever the load (that is, what we step on the accelerator) in any rotation regime. On paper this translates (according to Fiat) into lower consumption and higher performance. Giving data is 10% power, 15% torque, a drop in consumption of up to 15% and a reduction of particles up to 40% and NOx of up to 60%.

The previous 1.4 hp 120 Turbo engine approved an average consumption of 6,1 litres/100 km, while now it offers 135 hp and homologates 5,6 litres/100 km (thanks in part to the Start&Stop system that equips as standard).

In practice I have measured some consumptions pulling low but higher than I expected. This is mainly because in the "Dynamic" position of the DNA the consumption suffers a lot, especially in the city.

inside the city driving "totally at my own pace" and with the Dynamic h modeand measured a consumption of 9,1 litres/100 km, which seems like a lot to me. On the contrary, driving efficiently and With the DNA in the "Normal" position, consumption has dropped to 7,0 litres/100km (the car approves 7,4 liters).

On a mountain road (before reaching the snow in the photos) and squeezing the engine to the max in Dynamic the consumption has been 17,5 liters / 100 km. In normal driving pulling agile by two-way road alternating the DNA in the two positions has spent 7,3 liters / 100 km, more or less the same as by highway within the legality.

Therefore, I can summarize that the average consumption of this car will be around 7,5 liters / 100 km little by little that we become fond of the Dynamic on the road and whenever we are restrained in the city. It does not seem to me to be an exceptional figure (it is very similar to the Audi A3 1.4 TFSI from a few weeks ago) but in return we get a sporty feel.

Equipment and prices

The Alfa MiTo 1.4 Turbo Multiair 135 CV Distinctive part of a fee price of about €17.500. It is not a cheap car, but in return it brings a standard equipment that is necessary to assess: seven airbags, ESP with Hill Holder, cornering braking control, BAS, Q2 electronic differential, DNA control, active front head restraints, Start&Stop, heated mirrors, climate control, Mp3 with USB and Blue&Me, daytime running lights, etc.

Instead it comes with a 16 inch rim. (17″ for €700 and 18″ for €1.000), and are optional speed control, the five seats, rain sensors and lights, and a long list of customization options, which fortunately can be incorporated into various packs defined by the manufacturer.

Botton line

It seems to me an interesting car for those who value sporty touch and a different and unusual image. Its rate price is quite high but in return you get a quality interior and equipment not very common in the segment (electronic differential, DNA control, Start&Stop, etc). As an urbanite you can more than fulfill, the same as for long trips as long as the rear seats are not going to be used often. Fuel consumption is not particularly low but we must also value the exceptional behavior of the car in sports driving.

The biggest "buts" that I have found is a somewhat imprecise gearbox and only five speeds and the height limitation of the rear seats.
