What if Fernando Alonso had gone to Red Bull?

Fernando Alonso

In current Formula 1, Few teams that currently make up the grid could be considered historical, since the vast majority are the whim of people with money, who have dedicated themselves to buying the license and old chassis, to rename them as the sponsors like, and thus be able to go around the world, advertising in the great circus. Some manage to make a profit, which allows them to continue in a world as complex as today's F1.

Today, we could only call historical, Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and maybe if they hurry me, at renowned Lotus team, which was previously Renault, but only because of the fact that they introduced turbo engines. So any driver would be delighted to be able to get into one of these admired single-seaters, although it is true, not all of them are at the top of the classification. But hey, it's normal to be like that. That is what an Asturian boy, named Fernando Alonso, thought when he was racing in the lower competitions: »one day I will race in the McLaren team, and it will be without having to pay».

At the beginning of 2006, it was announced that the current world champion, Fernando Alonso, would be part of the ranks of the McLaren team, no matter what happened during that season. As you all know, that year, the Spaniard won his second world title with the Renault team, so the following season the McLaren would wear the number one on the nose. Presentation in style in Valencia, with the circus of the sun included, the Spanish presenter of Formula 1 jumping for joy, because he had a lot of audience... Anyway, everything seemed very nice, but it was only the beginning.

Later throughout the season, it was seen that things were not going to be as expected, and that the second driver of the Woking team, a certain Lewis Hamilton, who had just won GP2, and who throughout his racing life had been sponsored by Ron Dennis, was going to be the favorite of the English, in search of win a world title for Great Britain, which had not been achieved for years.

Fernando Alonso felt betrayed, and since the Hungarian GP (or perhaps before), where we saw an enraged Ron Dennis throw the hooves, when the Spaniard was waiting to start qualifying, while the Englishman was waiting in line to change the tires, the situation became unbearable. At the end of that year, it was announced that the Spaniard would leave the English structure, despite the fact that he still had two more years left on his contract.

The only condition that the English put, so that everything was resolved without problems, was that Fernando Alonso, could not go to Ferrari until 2009, that is, not only in soccer there are clauses so that they do not go to the rival team. At that moment there were only three possibilities, return to Renault, the Japanese from Toyota, or sign for the Red Bull team, which was beginning to build a solid team, but was obviously in its initial phase.

The Austrians loved him, but they also wanted him to join them for a period of no less than two years, with the option of a third party. In the end, the Spaniard decided to return to what has always been his home, Renault, perhaps also because his manager at the time was Flavio Briatore. However, he had the opportunity to have changed the course of F1 history in recent years, since if after a few weeks of negotiations, including a meeting in Madrid, the Spaniard had signed for the energy drinks team, surely some other World Cup would have won.

But of course, we see all this now in the past, perhaps at that time, nothing was seen but the whim of a rich millionaire who had a lot of money and who wanted to spend it on a racing car, but you can no longer go back, and the reality is that Fernando Alonso only has two world championships, and the Red Bull team has four.
