BMW i3, we attended its presentation (II)

BMW i3

We continue talking about the BMW i3, the first BMW electric model that we were able to meet last week in person, during a static presentation organized by the brand. We already reviewed yesterday main technical characteristics, as well as its exterior and its spacious interior. Today we will know details related to the commercialization and the BMW i3 after-sales service in Spain, among other things.

Sales of the model will begin, despite the fact that orders can already be placed, in October of this year and the starting price will be $35.500. There is no government aid and this will be the base price for the i3 range. It can also be financed with a minimum fee of 399 euros per month.

Prices and financing

The 35.500 euros correspond to the purely electric BMW i3. The Range Extender, with a small gasoline engine that acts as a generator, will cost 39.990 euros. The financing price is part of the aforementioned 399 euros per month for the most basic electric. There are 35 installments with an entry of €7.854 and a final installment of €17.900. If we use this form of financing, the BMW i3 will cost us a total of 40.535 euros (APR 7,73%). With the financing, what we do is sign a contract in which after three years we are given the possibility of returning it, changing it or keeping it by paying the final installment. Always depending on the conditions of said contract.

In addition, the brand will offer multiple services, such as loan of a combustion car for sporadic long trips. These types of services will be marketed in economic packages, whose prices will be announced later. With this service, most people would have enough with a BMW i3 for day to day, using the car offered by the brand to go to the beach in August. Renting a car on your own could also be a valid option.

As a curiosity, the monthly fee includes the assistance in case of running out of battery. What is not included is the possible fine for running out of fuel, because in the end electricity is a fuel in these cars. And speaking of batteries, these are owned and have a guarantee of 8 years or 100.000 km. The rest of the car has a two-year warranty.

Exclusive points of sale i

Not everyone at every dealership is going to sell BMW i models. This happens in all brands that offer electric vehicles. Initially there will be nine exclusive points of sale i in Catalonia, Madrid, Asturias, Galicia, the Basque Country, Andalusia and Levante. These outlets they will have their own identity, using the electric blue color of BMW i and wood as the main elements.

There will also be specific technical services for the BMW i and for the repair of carbon fiber there will be three specialized centers with suitably trained personnel in Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. In the event that the carbon fiber structure needed repair, BMW would bear the costs of transporting the vehicle to the repair center, without this being reflected in the user or in the insurance policy.

The maintenance of the BMW i3 is 20% cheaper than that of a 1 series, and just as expensive in the case of the Range Extender. BMW will offer BSI maintenance packages.

0 CO2 emissions throughout the manufacturing process

BMW i3

The BMW i3 stands out for being a car that does not emit any CO2 since its assembly begins at the Leipzig plant. Four windmills have been located in the factory that provide more energy than is necessary to build the i3, so there is no direct environmental impact. Another thing is where the electricity comes from when charging it in our homes.
