When at the beginning of 2014, almost 4 years ago, BMW launched the i8 Coupé, we were all impressed. The design of this hybrid sports car was a revolution To our eyes, it seemed practically impossible for a brand to be able to bring to market a vehicle whose aesthetics were as beautiful as they were futuristic. In fact, we agreed that the BMW i8 Coupe it used an aesthetic much more similar to that of a design exercise than a road car.
Be that as it may, the BMW i8 Coupé arrived at the dealerships and the first units were already beginning to turn heads there in their path. Now, at the end of 2017, the Bavarian firm has presented the restyling of this striking hybrid sports car and also a new convertible body variant, BMW i8 Roadster. The first units will not land until May, although the reservation period opens in a few days, in January.

Neither the i8 Coupe nor the Roadster are affordable models. However, we must take into account the development carried out by the Bavarian firm, as they have applied unusual technologies and components in vehicles of this type. So much so that, despite the fact that the i8 Coupé was already a fairly light vehicle for an electrified car, the BMW i8 Roadster has only "fattened" 60 kilos compared to its closed body brother.
On the other hand, both new models update the electric propulsion system, which thanks to a new battery are capable of yielding 143 hp in EV mode. As a whole, the electric motor together with the 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline deliver 374 hp, enough power to catapult alone 4,4 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h (4,6 in the Roadster). And in terms of consumption, according to the approved NDEC data, it spends an average of 2,1 l / 100 km, being able to travel 53 kilometers without spending a single drop of gasoline.
