One of the technologies that has been developing the longest, among others involving plug-in hybrid and electric cars, is wireless charging. The possibility of becoming independent from cables, as in the case of mobile phones that have this technology, will introduce a very important element of comfort in this type of car. BMW will introduce this innovation throughout the next 2018.

The first model of the Bavarian brand to benefit of this novelty will be the BMW 530e iPerformance. According to BMW, the car can be fully charged in 3 hours and a half, and all without the need to plug in a cable. BMW has released a new video showing how the system will work.

The ritual to charge the vehicle through wireless technology It will be as simple as positioning ourselves at the base. This will generate an electromagnetic field that will interact with a plate located inside the car that will recharge the batteries. Wireless charging is nothing new in the technological field, but it is in the automotive sector, since it will be the first manufacturer to incorporate this technology in its models.

Continuing with the procedure, the car itself will tell us where to park the vehicle, since it will show us the location of the charging base. Something quite comfortable to not have to guess where we are really parking. The battery, on the other hand, will be charged with a power of 3,2 kW, fully charging the car in just 3,5 hours. This is much faster than charging with a conventional plug, but somewhat slower than with a 3,7 kW wallbox.

With the application shown in the video we could also verify, BMW's desire to remove keys on its models, which could be replaced by our smartphone. Finally, to check the charge of our vehicle, we can access a BMW application that will show us the total charge time, as well as giving us the possibility to lock the car, unlock it, turn on the lights and honk the horn.
