FIAT is a specialist in creating small, friendly and practical urban cars for everyday use. The FIAT 500 it is an institution in itself, but SUVs now mark the European automotive landscape. For that reason, the FIAT 500X it has become such an important model for the house of Turin. All the joy of the classic 500 contained in a larger and country format.

FIAT designers were very clear that the 500X would not only borrow the name of its little brother, it would also be the basis for applying its characteristic design. The first generation hit the market at the end of 2013, and immediately became one of the references in its segment, a B-SUV segment that has become the fastest growing in number of sales.

In September 2018, the FIAT 500X is updated. We are not talking about a completely new generation, rather a mid-business cycle update that introduces slight improvements at an aesthetic, mechanical and equipment level. Since then, the model has not undergone any major renovations, although it has added small updates, mainly mechanical.

Technical characteristics of the FIAT 500X

Fiat 500x hybrid cars

Beneath the bodywork, the FIAT 500X is built on the modular platform for small vehicles of the FCA group, called GM FIAT Small Platform. premiered by the FIAT 500L, this structure is a deep update of the one used in the past by the Point, and that we can currently see in other products, such as the Jeep Renegade.

Over time, and after the update at the end of 2018, the 500X has lost the different body versions. Currently only one unit is available whose measurements place it directly in the utility SUV segment: 4,26 meters long, 1,8 meters wide and 1,6 meters high. To these dimensions must be added a wheelbase of 2,57 meters.

That battle allows you to offer an approved passenger compartment for a maximum of five passengers, the three rear ones will be somewhat fair due to the little space for the legs and the reduced level for the shoulders. Regarding the volume of the trunk, the FIAT 500X formalizes a minimum capacity of 350 liters, expandable to 1.000 liters when the second row of seats is folded down completely.

The increasingly strict European emissions and pollution regulations have been a real headache for manufacturers. We have seen how the large ranges of engines are reduced to minimum values. The mechanical fleet of the FIAT 500X is made up exclusively of a Mildh Hybrid version with the DGT ECO label.

Officially named as 1.5 hybrid, the 500X has a turbocharged gasoline block with four in-line cylinders and 1.468 cubic centimeters of displacement. An additional 48-volt electrical scheme is installed next to it, an MHEV system that allows it to offer the ECO label. It develops 130 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque.. Management is derived from a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that sends all power to the front axle without the possibility of mounting all-wheel drive.

FIAT 500X Equipment

From the inside, the FIAT 500X is shown as a complete SUV of medium quality. Inside, mostly hard plastic materials are used. The touches of quality are signed by the upholstery and small details. In its favor, it has a high degree of interior customization, allowing the buyer to choose different shades of trim and upholstery.

As usual, the range of equipment is divided into different levels. These not only allow the equipment load to be improved and access to different mechanical solutions, they also allow the general design of the vehicle to be altered, being able to choose various alternatives; sports, country, urban or basic. The equipment levels are: 500X, Sport and Dolcevita.

In terms of equipment, the FIAT 500X makes clear its age and the segment it is targeting. The number of systems is not comparable to newer models, but still offers interesting elements such as: Full LED headlights, connectivity for mobile devices, dual-zone climate control, rear parking camera, seven-inch screen navigator, and a wide range of safety elements and driving assistants.

The FIAT 500X according to Euro NCAP

The Fiat 500X was subjected to the demanding Euro NCAP tests in 2015. chosen version was 1.6 MultiJet II with 120 hp of power and the old Pop Star finish. The overall score obtained was 4 Stars out of 5 achieving 86% protection for adult occupants, 85% protection for infants, 74% protection for pedestrians and 64% in driving aids and systems (point that has penalized him the most due to the lack of some assistants in this access version). The FIAT 500X of Km 0 and second hand

Since its arrival on the Spanish market, the Fiat 500X has become one of the firm's best-selling models. Its exterior and interior customization possibilities make it a car appreciated by young people, so we can find multiple options in the Km 0 and second-hand market. On average the 500X has a devaluation around 35%, making its resale price lower than desirable.

If we take a look at the second-hand or occasion channel, we see that the most affordable units start their prices in figures close to 9.500 euros for 2015 models with more than 100 thousand kilometers. The Km 0 market is much more limited. The current low sales volume does not encourage dealers to present much stock. The few units for sale do not represent a great attraction for buyers, since the prices are similar to those of new units.

FIAT 500X Rivals

When talking about rivals of the FIAT 500X, we must look for them in the B-SUV segment. In recent years models have flourished, and therefore there is a long list of enemies that the Italian model must face: Renault Captur, Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008, SEAT Arona, Skoda Kamiq, Opel Mokka, Hyundai Kona, KIA Sonic, Volkswagen T-Cross, Ford Puma, Citroen C3 Aircross, and more, including the Renegade.
