El McLaren 570S It is the model that started the Sport Series range of the English firm. It is the most accessible branch, economically speaking, that the Woking have for sale. But that does not mean that we are not talking about a true mid-range sports car that enjoys high performance. A true McLaren.

The 570S inaugurated the range in 2015 when it was officially presented to the world during the New York Auto Show. Since then, different models have emerged from it, such as the McLaren 540C, McLaren 570GT or the convertible version, the 570S Spider. They are all brothers and share much of the development and components.

Although the commercial start of the McLaren 570S did not occur until a year after its launch, in 2016, at the moment we are in the first generation of it. Throughout these years its design or capabilities have not been altered, but it has special or limited editions have been exhibited that modified part of its structure to push its possibilities to the limit.

Technical characteristics of the McLaren 570S

The entire Sport Series range rests on the same platform. It is a structure of low weight and high resistance that barely adds 75 kilograms to the total weight calculation of the car. It's about a monocoque chassis made of carbon fiber that McLaren calls MonoCell II and whose rigidity allows to face with total tranquility the high levels of performance that the engine is capable of generating.

The McLaren 570S is a compact sports car, at least its measurements give it away: 4,53 meters long, 2,09 meters wide and 1,2 meters high. To these measures must be added a shorter wheelbase that allows a maximum of two passengers to be accommodated inside, who will have to access through the striking system of vertically opening doors.

Cargo capacity isn't the most important of the 570S's stats, but McLaren claims its barely 150 liters of trunk are sufficient for normal use. Two years after the launch of the model, its convertible variant arrived, the 570S Spider. In addition to the retractable roof, the general design of the sports car changes in order to adapt to the change and the absence of a fixed roof that is hidden in just 15 seconds.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the McLaren 570S

When mobilizing the Sport Series range, McLaren uses a single powertrain that diversifies its power range in order to offer a more complete and accessible range to a greater diversity of customers. In the case of the McLaren 570S we are talking about an intermediate power model, just above the 540C and below the McLaren 600LT. It also presents intermediate performance figures.

The engine used is a block made of aluminum placed in a central arrangement. It has eight cylinders in vee and 3.799 cubic centimeters of displacement with double overhead camshafts and two turbochargers. To this engine is attached a seven-speed automatic gearbox with double clutch that is responsible for sending all the power of the engine to the rear axle.

The total power of the set is 570 horsepower at 7.400 revolutions and 600 Nm of maximum torque between 5.000 and 6.500 engine revolutions. Such performance translates into true supercar performance. From 0 to 100 km/h in 3,2 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 9,5 seconds and top speed of 328 kilometers per hour. All this with a combined consumption in the WLTP cycle of 12,2 liters per 100 kilometers travelled.

Sportsmanship is not only transmitted in numbers, it is also in sensations. When manufacturing the interior of the McLaren 570S, those from Woking wanted to create a typical racing atmosphere thanks to the use of racing materials such as carbon fiber or Alcantara. All these materials are accommodated in an interior of great quality and excellent finish.

As such, McLaren does not feature a scaled equipment structure. The 570S enjoys a single finish, well presented in terms of technological load.. From that general finish we find an impressive list of optional elements and customization possibilities. Everything is sensible to adjust to the needs and tastes of each client, where only the imagination or the budget limit will mark the end.

As far as technology and equipment are concerned, the McLaren 570S has all the necessary elements. Most of them are centralized in a main screen in vertical layout with a size of eight inches, and in a fully digital instrument cluster. Many of the options focus on improving performance, such as carbon-ceramic brakes, while others are intended to improve life on board, such as the Bowers & Wilkins sound system with up to 12 speakers.

By entering the field of sportsmanship, we enter one of the most exclusive areas of the automotive market. The 570S is committed to offering the entire McLaren experience for a somewhat more accessible pricealthough not cheap for that. That leaves us with a long list of rivals where the presence of: Audi R8, BMW M8, Mercedes-AMG GT, Lamborghini Huracán, Aston Martin DB11 y Porsche 911, among others. All of them are rivals for similar power, although the McLaren is one of the most expensive in the segment.

McLaren 570S Price

The 570S is the second most accessible model by McLaren. Right in the middle of his brothers, the 540C and the 570GT. The starting price of the McLaren 570S is 218.000 euros for the coupé body, without offers or promotions. This price rises considerably when moving to the Spyder body or when mounting one of the many optional or customization elements. The limit is set on the imagination or the size of the potential client's portfolio.
