The last mile light industrial segment has grown a lot in recent years. The available offer has multiplied, although there are models that have always been present, as is the case with the Opel Vivaro. The German model is somewhere in the middle of Opel's professional fleet, ranking above the Opel Combo and below, in size, the Opel Movano.

The Vivaro is a long-distance model within the category, although it has gone through different stages throughout its life. The first generation was presented in 2001. At that time Opel was part of the General Motors conglomerate. The Americans signed a joint venture with Renault for the production of sister commercial models, and the German model was born from this marriage of convenience.

Although this strategy was maintained in the second edition, for the last edition, the third, presented in society in 2019, Opel joins the commercial network of the Stellantis Group. This causes radical changes in the professional model. Thanks to this, the Vivaro offers updated systems, including an electric variant and a passenger unit focused on a particular use called Opel Zafira Life.

Technical characteristics of the Opel Vivaro

The third generation of the Jumpy is developed and manufactured on the modern and modular EMP2 platform of the Stellantis Group. It is a tourism platform, and it is the same one used by models such as the Opel Astra or Opel Grandland. Thanks to it, it offers a complete range of bodies, including vans, double cabin versions, for multipurpose use, or platform versions with the possibility of adapting to various bodies.

Thanks to this structural versatility, the Citroën Jumpy is offered in various body lengths. Three versions that are clearly delimited by their length: S, M and L. In its smallest format we are talking about 4,6 meters long with a wheelbase of 2,92 meters. In the M version, the length is extended to 4,96 meters long with a wheelbase of 3,27 meters. Finally, in its superior format, the Vivaro L shows a size of 5,3 meters long with a wheelbase of 3,27 meters.

In all formats, the width, 1,92 meters, and height, 1,9 meters, remain fixed. Thanks to these different measures, different load capacities are available that allow them to be adapted to various uses. Up to 1.400 kilograms of cargo, maximum capacity for nine passengers and a maximum volume of 6,6 cubic meters. Numbers that can be altered in hundreds of length and body configurations.

Mechanical range and gearboxes of the Opel Vivaro

For the mechanical part, Opel has had a very complete catalog of engines where low consumption stands out. All mechanics conform to the latest emission regulations. Under the hood of the Opel Vivaro a mechanical range with three diesel versions and a 100% electric unit is installed known by the name Vivaro-e. It offers 136 horsepower, 50 or 75 kWh capacity batteries and autonomy between 220 and 317 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.

For benefits, the range starts with the 1.5 Diesel. A 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 100 hp and 210 Nm of torque or 120 hp and 300 Nm of torque. In the more powerful versions, Diesel 2.0, the engine grows its displacement, having a four-cylinder turbocharged diesel block and 1.997 cubic centimeters. It develops a minimum power of 144 horsepower, and can go up to 177 horsepower. with small adjustments in the electronic part.

All units transmit power to the front wheels, without exception. Optionally, it is possible to include different driving programs that alter power management depending on terrain conditions. As standard, all units are associated with a six-speed manual gearbox. Only the most powerful versions have the possibility of having an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Despite being derived from an industrial vehicle, the Vivaro sports a very well presented cabin in technologies and qualities. Although in its most basic formats the sensation of quality is not very high, in higher formats it shows a complete equipment, as well as an improved execution quality. Passenger comfort is generous thanks to the large amount of space and the various elements on board.

As is customary in the house, the range of equipment for the Opel Vivaro in the Spanish market is structured around three versions. From lowest to highest endowment we find the endings: Express, Select e Innovation. Each of them has specific configurations depending on the selected bodywork option.

At the equipment level, it can offer identical systems to those of a tourism, presented advanced elements of comfort in its superior finishes. Elements such as: keyless entry and start, Head-Up Display, multimedia system with touch panel, browser, connectivity for mobile devices, sunroof, and extensive safety equipment and driving seats stand out.

The Opel Vivaro according to Euro NCAP

Since the Vivaro is counted as a sister product in Stellantis, its security is shared by all models in the conglomerate. The Opel Vivaro was subjected in 2015 to the impact tests that the autonomous body Euro NCAP organizes. The score obtained was the maximum possible, 5 stars. In any case, it is distributed as follows. Protection for adult and child occupants in the event of an impact has been 87 and 91 percent, respectively. In the event of being hit by pedestrians or cyclists, it achieved 64 percent. Finally, in terms of active driving aids, it obtained a remarkable 78 percent.

The Opel Vivaro of Km 0 and second hand

Over the years and generations, the Vivaro has earned a well-deserved reputation for durability and reliability. This has been an incentive for the main and secondary markets, where the offer is wide and varied. Thanks to this popularity, the commercial offer is wide, and in it we verify an average depreciation value for the category, although it depends a lot on the generation in question and the condition of the vehicle.

If we take a look at the used and second-hand market, we see a wide collection of models available, mainly the first and second generation. Prices start at figures close to 1.500 euros for first-generation models in van format with more than 240.000 accumulated kilometers. The offer of models in the Km 0 channel is non-existent due to the lack of stock stored by the dealers.
