Bugatti has revealed the official consumption figures for the Chiron

Consumption of the Chiron published by Bugatti

Bugatti has officially made public the chiron consumption and you can already imagine that with 1.500 CV it can not be little. It is not surprising that they are considering transforming it into an electric, but not only to improve its performance, as Wolfgang Dürheimer, CEO of the Italian-French company, said.

Despite that the consumption of the Bugatti Chiron It is out of all logic if what you want is to go from point A to point B, it has managed to homologate a figure somewhat better than that marked by its predecessor: the Bugatti Veyron. That monster that "only" has 1.001 hp consumes a whopping 23,5 liters on average every 100 km.

The enormous consumption of the Chiron

The consumption approved by the Chiron in the EPA combined cycle (US Environmental Protection Agency) has been 21,4 liters per 100 km. If you think coldly, it is pretty good consumption considering that it is an 16-liter 8.0-cylinder engine with four turbos. The slight improvement over the Veyron has been achieved through a system of deactivation of half of the cylinders, the improvement of direct fuel injection and the use of turbochargers with electric actuator.

Despite having a better average consumption, the Chiron spends a little more than the Veyron on the highway. While the old Bugatti supercar manages to spend 15,7 l/100 km, the most recent goes up to 16,8 l/100 km. Just the opposite happens with urban consumption, in which the Chiron wins again with 26,1 l/100 km compared to 29,4 of its predecessor.

Although the homologation made by the EPA is much more realistic than that of the European NEDC cycle, the consumption announced by Bugatti would be very difficult to reproduce in real conditions. In addition, no matter how many savings systems are added to them, these cars are not designed to be efficient. When running at full power, they are capable of consuming around 190 liters per 100 km. With consumption like this, by their side the cars affected by the emission manipulation they look like a Toyota Prius.
